I can't taste sushi, is this normal?

Whenever I eat nigiri sushi (slice of raw fish on bed of rice) it just tastes like rice to me. I can taste California rolls fine though. I do have narrow nasal passages that I can't breath easily out of, maybe this is reducing my ability to taste delicate foods like sushi?

Normal. Your tastebuds will also be more sensitive if you don't smoke, or if you don't have sushi at the same time as something else which especially if it has a strong flavor will overpower the taste of the sushi.

lol, I can definitely taste the wasabi, soy sauce and ginger slices served with sushi. But even when I use very little condiments I just can't taste the fish.

I don't think it's bad, it's definitely bland to me though.

Some fish has a rather bland taste. If the fish is being put together with ingredients that are spicy, strong or sour, they can cover the taste of the fish.

Depends where you get the sushi from! Try the same rolls at different places, then you'll know for sure!

    Sushi.. It either sucks balls.

Or tastes good.. But it all depends on what kind of "FISH" we are talking about.. Salmon is good.

Did you try it with soy sauce and wasabi?

Sure, I can taste soy sauce and wasabi... but even when I use very little I just can't taste the fish, I would imagine the point in sushi is to taste the fish.
