Perhaps listen to soft music to put you to sleep? Aroma Therapy or a bath? It shouldn't take more than 30 mins to fall asleep when ur tired. Maybe ur just not tired enough. Wake up earlier and tire urself out during the day.

It is pretty normal I think. I have that a lot of times. My brain doesn't want to shut up and let me sleep. You may have a naturally different sleep pattern also. One thing you might try avoiding is being on the computer an hour before you sleep. Apparently the light a computer gives off is similar to the sun and can make your brain think it is still day time. Which makes it harder to sleep. TV doesn't do this because it is farther away from you, but watching TV while you are trying to sleep will keep you up later. I find listening to calm music while I try to sleep helps. It makes my brain stop talking and just relax. Soft classical is good for this. Good luck!

i do it to, i think its more a problem of our culture deciding when people should sleep based off farmers sleeping habits rather then whats natural

Your problem is that you try to sleep but you're too wound up by the time you go to bed.

Learn to wind down and calm your mind BEFORE bedtime, so that by the time bedtime comes, you will be relaxed enough to sleep.

Teas, meditation, relaxation techniques and soothing music can all help with this issue.

Stop thinking while you are trying to go to sleep. Buy a relaxation / sleep CD and listen to that instead.

I've suffered from insomnia my whole life. It's no fun, is it? I tend to get up and either do some work or read. It's amazing how often I suddenly feel the need to sleep at 6:15am so I tend to keep my phone beside me and set the alarm for 7:45am. Having ninety minutes sleep helps get through the next day.

Do you wake up throughout the night as well or just have problems getting asleep?
