I can't hear the word biscuit.

Picture the scene, a group of friends sitting around watching telly, drinking tea, John stands up and asks, "anyone for a biscuit?".

I get agitated, "anyone for a what?". "A biscuit". I see his mouth move and realise by elimination what he's asking about. Imagine though if we were in a club and someone asked me though, or out along the streets at night. I'd never see the mouth move.

I can see the written word, and generally, when people use the word I can guess by the situation whats being asked, but I cannot hear the word biscuit when it is said.

Does anyone else have anything similar? Is it normal?

Can you hear the word "biz"? Okay, good. Now, can you hear the word "cut"? Try having people say it like that.

  • It's not rare at all acually. It's called selective hearing. My friend can hear the word chinc the way to call a chinese person he just says "what?"

This might not be as rare as you have been led to beleve
my clsoe work friend has told me a story of when he was a child. He said that he was attacked by a gaggle of geese and was so traumatised that he now can't see geese. It's not that they just disapeer but more that the area the goose is standing will blur so he cant see it. does your hearing just blur or go silent?
also he said he neerly crashed his mini when a goose was at the side of the road and he couldnt see properly. Not always so crazy.
    my verdict is NORMAL!

Well the word biscut is a higher tone range of your hearing so if u can't hear it it means a part of your brain that recepts that high tone is malformed.
