I can't doodle but i can draw big artworks?

I have been very artistic since a young age, I've seen my my peers doodling on notepads and stuff, you know, just random little drawings that will probably be thrown out in days to come, and here I am sitting next to them drawing this detailed sketch of a flower, or a portrait of someone, or something like that.
Whenever I try to doodle on my notepad, I always end up creating this intricate pattern or a detailed sketch of some kind! I don't seem to be able to just draw doodles, I try to.. but then I end up spending an hour or so sketching. I've tried doodling with a pen to see if that stops me doing lots of shading and stuff, but I've now found I am able to shade with a ball point pen!

Is it normal that I can't doodle?

(By the way I'm not vain when I say stuff about what I draw in this is it normal story, I'm just emphasizing the contrast between a doodle I want to just be able to draw to pass the time, and what ends up on the paper.)

I'm the exact same way. I can never just doodle; there always has to be an idea of what I want to draw before I draw it. I always hear about people doodling and I think "how can they just sit there drawing random stuff?"

    I'm the exact opposite, unfortunately.

I understand this to an extent, I will end up just making patterns or typographic styles when I'm doodling. Maybe you could try what I call 'scribble doodles' - you close your eyes, draw a random scribble on the page, and see what you can turn it into. Mine often turn into birds or weird Little Shop of Horrors plant creatures, well usually something cartoonish and imperfect and disposable. I think the fact that you have a mess there to begin with helps to prevent you from making anything too polished.

thats how i am. I cant just draw randomly. I always love to draw cars, and they always end up with a lot of dietail. I have a notebook and three folders full of drawings.

      • Me too, I wish I could draw realistic things, I always end up drawing detailed pictures of my fave anime characters or chibi versions of them. You should see my Lelouch chibi, he's sooo cute! :D

Doodle comes into play only when ur mind is occupied with something else. Not many are (un)lucky to have such times. It's quite normal for some people to have such an ardent passion on arts that whenever they try to doodle, they are actually drawn into it, thereby ending up with big artworks instead of doodles .. It doesn't matter if u are gifted with only one form of drawing, as long as u enjoy it ;)
