I can see static?

Okay so i've had this type of vision since I can remember. I see everything as, sharp, as colourful as anyone else but everywhere are soft specks of millions of dots like static on a tv or bad graphics. There's not a spot in my vision I can't see it, it's like it makes up everything.
I've asked my friends & they say they could also see it but as kids in the night & that it doesn't happen anymore? My brother says he can see it at night as well, for me it just becomes stronger & I start seeing colours with it in the dark.. Am I going blind! What is it?

I think a certain level of 'static' is pretty normal in low-light conditions.

Quote: "The photoreceptors in the retina are extremely sensitive. They sit in an 'active' state waiting for a little photon of light to trigger their signal to be sent to the brain. At any given time, a handful of them are "falsely firing" either randomly or due to other non-light stimulus. This results in the TV-static like perception we see"

This sounds plausible to me, and it makes sense that it's more noticeable and to a greater degree in the dark.

However, if you see a lot of static even in well-lit settings, it's possible you have 'visual snow': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_snow

This is called visual snow. I have it, too.

I see a million of dots too and sometimes, things that look like single cell organisms. I can also see heat waves and very rarely, the energy particles in sunlight.

Yup, visual snow. People either see it more clearly in the dark or against a white background.

Oh my god you've got the same rare condition as me! Its called visual snow, since I can remember I've had a static like an old TV on an unrecognised channel all across my vision, there's little to none scientific study into the condition as its rare and until recently it was seen as a side affect to various conditions and drug use,

    • I have this symptom too but I don't think it is rare. It actually seems extremely common.

Its strange though any research I've tried to do on it has led to nothing as the scientific studies deem as as obscure
