Well let's define pitbull here. The american pitbull terrier, american staffordshire terrier, staffordshire bull terrier, american bulldog, blackmouth cur, presa canarios, and cane coroso are all pure breed dogs that can fit the description of pit bull. The majority or these "pit bull" attacks are not done by dogs from show lines or even working lines of any of these breeds. The attacks are usually from dogs that fit into the American bully or american bandog breeds. Both are popular with irresponsible dog owners that want one of these type of dogs because they can look intimidating. Alot of these dogs are abused and inbred so yeah they are unstable and many have aggression issues. Do yall actually know how rare it is to find true fighting line APBTs. Theres only a few families left breeding them and they dont just sell them to anyone. Not to mention the cheapest puppy I've ever seen up for sale was over $1500 . And to the OP have you ever broke up a real dog fight? My guess is no because your idea would probably get you and your dog hurt. Pit bulls have a bad rep because any time a dog attacks, they say the dog was a pit bull, regardless if it was or not. Kind of like how they blame the brown recluse every time someone gets any sort of bug bite or sting that gets out of hand.

apbt are naturally prone to dog aggression, they were born to act like that just like how labradors were bred to retrieve and border collies were bred to be herders. you can never really train genetics out of a dog, but if you're a responsible dog handler you'll know and understand how to properly discipline and control such a dog.

you have every right to defend you and your dog from an off leash dog that's charging towards you, and if that means killing that dog that's running loose go for it. the only person to blame in that situation is the owner who decided to let their dog loose and not control it on a lead; and it's entirely their fault for not taking the responsibility to contain that dog safely.

the majority of apbt owners (the extra retarded ones like to call them "pits" or "pibbles") do not understand how to handle such a highly driven and difficult dog such an apbt, and it's the reason why so many are out of control and aggressive because the owner has never taught them proper discipline.
