I avoid showering for humanistic reasons

But you couldn't tell by smelling or standing next to me.

This little phenomena occurred when I was little and wondered how the homeless people lived without adequate hygiene, and I did an experiment for a week. I went without showering or brushing my teeth. It was a gross experiment (I was 5 years old) but I realized how terrible some people had it. And then, I learned about people who don't have access to running water (was a big shocker for me) and I just couldn't bring myself to shower everyday.

First of all, much more goes into this habit. I am a petite-sized woman who hates sports and excessive movement, I rarely sweat, and I am also quite lazy.

I haven't showered since Wednesday and it's Saturday morning. Since my scalp is kind of bugging me, I think I might jump in. The weird part is, I take very LONG showers. They are 20-30 minutes, under the water bc I have to shampoo twice, shave, exfoliate, and it requires using a gigantic amount of product.

But all in all, I believe that you don't have to shower for a few days unless you smell. Then that becomes a problem in our "modernized" society.

i think it's perfectly fine not to shower for a few days at a time unless you get dirty/sweaty/smelly or you're about to get intimate with someone. then again, i do have a lot of squatter-punk friends.

It's quite likely that people CAN in fact tell that you avoid showering by smelling you or standing next to you. Smelly people generally can't smell that they smell since the smell develops so gradually and you get used to a smell and stop smelling it if you smell it for a long time.

It's a good idea to shower at least every second day just to make sure you never smell. You can make at least half of the showers you take shorter ones since if you shower more often you won't need to do all that crap in there every single time, just quickly wash yourself (especially your armpits, anus and vagina) then get out.

Have you ever seen American Psycho you have some weird habits lady respectable..but weird..For your personal well being I would shower once a day learn how to take a military shower get wet turn the water off soap up and scrub hard turn the water back on and rush to get all of it off time yourself..you'll average 28 mins of water if you take a 4 minute shower every day..my family was so poor we had to do that when we were kids..lol..but seriously respect the impoverished for what they go through but wash your ass because you can!!..PEACE remember your signifigent other has to eat at that restraunt ..

Its sweet of you to care about others.
Maybe you should start a non profit organization about making showers available for homeless people. That would be more productive than avoiding showers yourself.
Also, start taking less time in the shower or try to figure out if you'd use less water by taking baths instead of showers.

if you care so much about the homeless how come you're focusing only on the hygiene aspect here? how about you shower every two days for the sake of the people around you and maybe go out there and volunteer in a homeless shelter or donate some clothes instead of sitting there just avoiding showers? I bet you're just lazy.

You say you're trying to save water but you're actually using more.. It's more hygienic to shower once every day/few days

  • 5 minute shower a day is still less then the time you use for one

I think it's ok if you try it once if you just wanted to test it and make it your experience. but if you make it a habit it is not normal at all...

  • no wonder you shower that long if you develop a crust over the days

I understand what you're saying. As long as you don't reek, and don't particularly feel icky, then it's not necessary to shower. I usually bathe three times a week during the summer (Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays -- I'm more physically active during the weekends), and just twice a week during the cold winter, usually Wednesdays and Mondays. Cold weather doesn't make me sweat much, unless I've run miles. As long as you're not smelling, feeling or looking too gross, then it's fine not to shower or bathe every day.

So, some people have a 5-10 minute shower every day for a week... = 35-70 minutes

You shower about 25 minutes about twice a week.. = 50 minutes

So what's the point? you're just being dirty for nothing.

I respect you for this. We all take running water for granted. I say good on you. :)

    It goes hand and hand
Showering too much isnt good for you because you need that natural oil.
but showering too little just can make you dirty..

You talked about the homeless people not showering but it isn't by choice. I am sure they would kill to have a shower and would be offended that you have one to use whenever you want and they are forced to live in their filth.

That's really not healthy, just try to use as little water as possible if you can, but please shower. One time, there was a girl like you at my high school and we were so fed up with her stink, we stripped her down and gave her a shower and made her brush her teeth.

taking into account that during a normal shower you can spend 160 litres of water, I cannot imagine how much water you do spend during your long ones... I guess you could tidy yourself up using very little water without having a shower, but dont understand the reason to waste water...

What kind of parents did you have that let a 5yr old go for 5 days without bathing or brushing your teeth????!!!

It sounds like you were neglected as a child and you are seeking attention by refusing to clean your body. Its also a sign of depression.

BTW, just because you don't think you stink doesn't mean you don't. Anyone that goes without brushing their teeth for days will be stinking to others.
