I am what i watch

Man so sometimes, I’ll get into a TV show. And man it’s kind of hard to explain but I subconsciously without trying treat the world like the people in that said show act and specifically sort of act like a certain character. And I like to think that’s what the world is like. The world in that tv show. Almost because it feels less stressful than being in the real sense of things? Is this normal?

The point of TV is to plant ideas in your head about how you should behave and stuff like that.

Absolutely. I do when I watch King of the Hill. I walk around town and pretend its Arlen. I even talk and act like Hank. I like going up to strangers houses and bang on their front door untill someone answers and buys my imaginary propane. I feel like a hero, most times.

I can relate to this a little bit and use to have this mindset a lot. I feel a lot of young people do I mean I am not that old but I remember when I looked at things the way you described.

You become like the people you associate with and the information you allow to be put into your brain.

Chose carefully what you allow into your brain.

I gave my wife a netflix gift card for Xmas as she wanted to watch The Queens Gambit. When we signed up we were asked to pick our favorite 3 shows from a large list. I didn't even have a clue about almost all of them. We virtually never watch TV.

  • Let me tell you how hard it is to binge watch the Boondocks as a white person and you can't repeat half the shit they say, at least in front of people

But I think I've adopted the character of Nick Burkhardt as one of my main personas. It's hard to explain but easily understood if you've seen Grimm. I'm just like really drawn to that sort of mentality, like that warrior mentality. Maybe I shoulda been a viking

        No, just kind of silly.

Unless you’re doing this all the time in daily life, then you might have some real issues there.

        • I mean no it’s not like that lol, it’s more or less like it’s a more comfortable world I suppose. Hard to explain really.

Yes but don’t you think if you use that to make the world more comfortable then you are clearly having an issue coping with reality?

I mean it sounds harmless, but still.
