I am very boring. normal?

for a while now i've been feeling that i'm just very boring. for example, when i talk to other people (family, friends, strangers, whatever) i find that i have nothing interesting to say, that i lack originality and that i'm just someone who could be easily forgotten, just another brick in the wall, so to speak.
i'm 21 and trying to start school (again) soon, don't have a job, live alone with my dog. i don't really do anything, i love smoking a joint whenever i can, i watch lots of movies on my computer and listen to and download a lot of music. i sometimes read, and sometimes write stories.
the problem is.. is it normal to have such a boring life?
i've tried getting some different hobbies, like playing the guitar, exercising, but i just grow tired and eventually fall back to my boring (as defined above) lifestyle.

  • Yeah you are into a lot of solitary activities. Could it be your life lacks balance & you are bored? That can be quite numbing - hard to be interesting when you are dulled with boredom.

Suggest you try to find more things that get you out of solitary & into community: school is good. Work? Interest groups (writing)? Music lessons? Jam buddies? A job ... ?

    Sorry couldn't resist.

I find booze helps you to loosen up and have more fun around people.

Good on you for trying to get back into education. I've also been leading a very boring life since finishing school. I'm now on a "gap year," but the prospect of uni isn't very appetizing to think about.

If it weren't for my family and (two) friends, I wouldn't get out of the house.

I too have nothing to say and lack originality...which is why I'm repeating everything you've written. Harharhar I'm such a riot.

If you watch movies, read, write, listen to lots of music and play guitar, you are instantly a million times more interesting than many other people in my opinion. And at least you make the effort ot talk to people. Small talk tends to be quite boring anyway, unless you really hit it off with someone.

Just keep doing what you're doing; keep trying to make a change in your life. Giving up is also a part of the process, like breathing, but you've got to make sure you get back up again. Once you get out, do more things and meet more people, you'll probably find that you have more to talk about nad your life won't seem as boring anymore. It really is all up to you.

  • Yes, it seems that you are suffering from the same problem my girlfriend and I have. Sure, I have been in Vietnam, survived a home intruder, and try my butt off to enjoy life, but I tend to be pretty boring from day to day. My fiance, Bethany is far worst than I am . I ask her what she would like to do and she keeps repeating the line that Eddie Murphy's future wife kept saying in the movie "Coming to America," whatever you like.

She is so afraid to do anything that she has no idea on how to have fun. So, it could be worst, you could be like her.

  • well you make a very good point there
but unlike you, i pretty much stay in my house all day and regularly see no one but my dog. every other day i get to see my father when he comes, and pretty much i dont see my friends until the weekend (which is when i try to have meaningful conversations with real people but just find myself being extremely boring).
and for example, this week i've been actually trying to not see anyone to see if that helps me get rid of that, but im not sure its working. i guess the problem is that i find myself very boring, not necessarily that i think other people find me boring. not sure if that makes complete sense.
anyway, i hope you're right and i'm really looking forward to starting school. maybe that will help me overcome this, or maybe it'll just make me not care and worry about serious stuff, like doing homework and stuff.

Hey, I appear to be more or less housebound too. Don't let whatever I say mislead you.

I also find myself quite the bore. I don't know if it's in the same way as what you meant, but somehow, it seems to me that there are some people who are just plain interesting and I'm not one of them. I do things and go about my business, but when it comes to me, the person, I'm just a bore.

I'd really like a dog. Maybe then I wouldn't be so lonely. I hope school works out well for you. Can I read some of your stories? [email protected]
