I am starting to get fed up!

I am honestly becoming fed up with this site. The site used to be so positive. Users were kinder and helpful. You could say almost whatever you wanted without backlash. But good things never seem to last.

A lot of the newer users are negative, vindictive, too easily offended and will resort to bullying others. So many good users have left because of this bull. I think I may end up leaving too. My love for this site is turning sour.

I can handle heat on other sites. The heat elsewhere is tame compared to this one. There's a special type of firey evil burning on here. A person can only take so much before they pack their bags up and leave.

What do you think?

  • I don't mind the negative opinions. That's part of life. This site isn't here to comfort people.

(Not the OP, and this rant is not necessarily directed at you)
there's no problem with negative opinions.. It is possible to be negative without being a stupid a-hole about it... It's part of the description of the site that "we're here to help, play nice" or something like that. If you disagree with someone simply say why, don't take personal offense and attack their character like some of the people around here do (again not directed at you since you seem to keep fairly neutral)

      • I see no reason for people to get upset over the internet but I have no expectations for anyone either. With expectations comes disappointment.

I've only just joined the site and I don't find it all that hostile. I'm starting to think I'm weirder than I thought as my question got less than 60% normal when asking if it's ok for a dog to give you oral sex or is it normal to want to have sex with your sister is like 90% normal. It's strange seeing what the majority of people find normal!

A lot of people answer ironically. If something is obviously fucked up, they'll say it's completely normal because they're tr0l0l0ling

As a newer user, I found some of the older ones to be the most hostile

Everyone here has there own opinion. I'll agree some users are just down right nasty and trolls are annoying, specially the ones who harass girls sexually and then make a number of accounts.

Iin has helped me though, and I haven't been around as long as most, but long enough to see that this site has these moments of awfulness..
    Then it disappears.

A lot of users are helpful and kind, a lot just like a bit of banter which I like, you cant take the users too seriously, a lot of my comments are just banter, but I do try and be helpful where I can, and I hope no one is offended by my comments.

It's to be expected that a site entirely based on the principle of querying normality would attract an abnormal user base, and for quite a while we had a good group of weirdos. When I joined this site, I liked it because it seemed like a tight-knit community chatting as friends on pretty much every post. Recently though, it has become populated with trolls.

The problem with trolls isn't just the harassment and/or annoyance they cause to whomever they pick on; they also have negative effects on the good users as a whole. When you see a troll in a thread talking crap to someone, even if it's just one user, what can you do? Downthumb it and move on? But you can't move on because you go to another post and, again, there's a troll. The negativity (and sometimes hostility) really gets to you, and your brain starts to associate this site with these unpleasant feelings. This is what makes everyone need breaks. Hell, I'm desperately needing one myself and I haven't even been back for long.

If IIN was in its current state when I stumbled across it, I know for sure I wouldn't have joined. Maybe things will get better at some point... Maybe not and the site would be better off scrapped.

Well, when someone asks a bunch of strangers on the internet for their opinions, they are automatically opening themselves up to negative comments/opinions. Doesn't make it right though, just means its inevitable.

I have noticed that some users on here are extremely over liberal and new agey. By that I mean, anything slightly old fashioned (for example, a woman being a housewife) seems to be outrageous and down right wrong to most of the users on this site. Some of them think that everyone needs to fully embrace the fact that we are in the 21st century and anything even slightly otherwise seems to offend them, because they don't understand it.

I came across a post about how lazy housewives are and about how there's no need for this way of life and it got me thinking how stuck in their ways some people are. Its really nobody's business how a couple choose to live. I also noticed some comments on a post about somebody asking about a highly addictive highly illegal drug.

One user strongly disagreed with the poster's lifestyle choices, being that drugs are, you know, awful? And everyone shat their pants calling the user all sorts of hateful things.

Another time there was a post about adultry, and some people actually defended it. People on this site hate the wrong things and defend the wrong things.

  • This site has improved in the sense that content tends to be much more mature and tasteful these days. On the other hand, it's just BORING.

Disagree. The site used to have plenty of genuine, interesting stories until they changed the moderation scheme.

Now little children just like to troll the site with "I want to have sex with my sister" or "Is it normal that I eat my own poop?" or "Here's a highly detailed account of my gay sex fantasy."

      • It seems like the exact opposite is true, in a sense.

Years ago this site was a haven for the most cringe-worthy material one could imagine, with content on incest, bestiality and pedophilia all being very common. What's worse is that these tended to be very popular - just take a look at the "Best Of" section and see for yourself. Shameful.

I think people here might be overly nostalgic about the good old days. I've come across old threads, and yeah, there is some great thoughtful advice, but there's plenty of useless cuntery as well. Now that things are not moderated, you get twice as many bullshit posts and twice as many twatty remarks.

I've done both here, been kind and helpful, been useless and sarcastic. I tend to respond to the content of a post; I think a lot of others do the same. More shitty posts = more shitty comments. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.

It's getting to be the same as youtube comments. If your topic is relationship-related, the comments quickly start to turn into aggression and hate. I see people make personal attacks and it's just ridiculous. I could write a topic like "IIN my Father wakes me up at 5am on a weekend" and you'll probably get comments like, "You're a moron anyway" and "what's the problem? he's your father, you obviously have issues", etc. Then other users will be all over those comments like, "do you have daddy issues little boy?" and it'll be a major fight.

    It's craycray man.

Yes. I know what you mean. Ill admit ive been no angel here myself. Sometimes its easy to let out frustrations on a semi anon website like this. It is easy to go too far and say things that you would normally never say to a persons face or on the phone. I think that we all want our individual opinions and views seen as something that the.majority agrees with but that is impossible. Conflict ensues feelings are hurt then trolls are birn that like to feed on the conflict. I apologize for my cruel internet crimes.

i think you should do what you feel is right to do. sure, it sucks people can be mean and seem to be a bully, but you can find that almost everywhere.

i just try and look at it this way, bullies and those acting mean making themselves look like a fool, they are completely laughable.

people like that are a virus, you can say anything, it doesn't matter, they will use anything you tell them against you. that's how they get in.

but its also a good thing to, because if you can stay strong, you become stronger, and people like that won't mean a thing to you.

All the bad users have gone! They have been bullied to fuck and so there are only good users left. If you don't accept this, perhaps have a bit of a think about it, and then think again.

Yeah, as it gains popularity I'm noticing more... Well, normal people answering with cliche advice or just plain "wtf" type answers, if anything at all. I've even gotten my questions reported and deleted simply for being too "out there" if I had to guess, since they were in proper format and nothing offensive/aggressive or illegal. I don't really notice the drama between users around here, though. But I do get what you mean about it used to have a lot nicer people that were inspiring to others like me to be nice as well. Without that, this site is no different from any other forum, and thus has nothing to keep people from trolling it...

Don't go...I'll be nice to you. Ask me anything and I'll try my best to give you advice. Just because people can be mean to others on here does not mean they should be. If anything, it only proves how poorly they think of themselves. It takes a mature person to recieve cruelty, but to not return it.

This can go for me too because I'm no saint either.
