I am scared getting weighe din public or at the doctor's

I hate getting weighed in a place other than my own home. Especially the doctor's office. Late time I got weighed was a few months ago and I know I was thinner at the time by probably 10-11lbs. I am still at a healthy weight (at that point I was probably a pound away from being underweight according to my home scale) but the scale there seems to always 7-8 pounds more than my home one and getting weighed on it actually SCARES me. I think the fear comes from me being a LITTLE kid (10ish) and getting weighed, I was a chubby little kid and I was told by the doctor to 'lay off the snacks' after being weighed. Really, probably since then I am terrified of getting weighed in a doctors scale or in front of anyone. IIN??

Being a doctor myself, I like to ask my patients to remove ALL their clothes SLOWLY before a weighing. Obviously they can do this behind a screen (on camera).
It makes a real difference if I am happy with what I see, I press the little hidden button that reduces the weight by 10lbs.

Often at the doc's office you're weighed in your sneakers, jeans, hoodie, etc. That stuff can add a couple of pounds. Also, it's likely you weigh yourself at home in the morning when one is the lightest. If you've already eaten and haven't gone to the bathroom, you'll be a little heavier too. Plus, your home scale could be calibrated incorrectly.

I am scared of any scales. I had a random doctor one day, and I was so used to doctors hiding my weight from me because I'd always request it. Anyway, this doctor carelessly printed my weight off and gave it to me and I ended up in the ED (emergency department) because I couldn't deal with my recovery weight gain. So I completely understand the fear of the scales, but I am glad you can be privately comfortable at home. :D One day I hope I don't care about my numbers.

  • I noticed their scales does add a few pounds too. You shouldn't worry about your weight though, your normal. Your fear is the problem but everyone has atleast one non common fear. You shouldn't worry :)
