I am disturbed by my child's nanny's behaviour.

I am a single mom, I live with my parents (my dad has cancer and is undergoing chemo/radiation/treatments etc.) and I felt so fortunate to find a nanny who lived just down the road. Seemed perfect, she has 5 children of her own and seemed responsible, stable, etc. It's a very stressful time for our family and right after the holiday, just before dad's big chemo and while I was extremely ill, the nanny quit without notice. She just quit. And she said it was for her own well being that she do this, but she would have had to have known that it was leading to this. Is it normal for me to feel angry and disappointed that she would quit without giving us any lead time to find daycare for my daughter, who is only 9 months old?

    I don't think it is abnormal for you to feel this way, but consider this. Would you really have wanted her to continue watching your children if she didn't feel like she could handle it?

    I understand she left you in a lurch, but be happy she was willing to stop before she got too overwhelmed and caused harm to your children

      thanks, you are right. I guess I was really focusing on the negative and being angry at the way she left me, but you are correct to point out that the opposite could have been much worse!!

    That could have happened to me. My daycare provider is running into a lot of ruckus right now, had to scale down dramatically a couple of weeks ago and I was lucky enough to be one of the ones she decided to keep because my son is apparently very easy to care for.

    You have every right to be ticked off at the lady for ditching you without at least two weeks notice. If I was in that position I would have gone up to her and demanded to know what the heck her problem was!
