I am attracted to both a real person and a fictional character

I want to start this off by saying I'm asexual, so my attraction isn't sexual, just romantic. So, I am in love with a girl I know. I haven't told her, and my chances of success are close to nothing, but I'll still try. I also feel even stronger attraction towards a fictional character, Nepeta Leijon from Homestuck. Although I really do love the real life girl, if Nepeta were real, I'd abandon all hopes for the real life girl and try to be with her instead. Kind of loke those guys that are in love with anime character "waifus", except i am still open to relationships woth real people. My attraction towards one or the other changes erratically. For example, this morning I felt stronger attraction to the real life girl, but now I feel attracted to Nepeta, the fictional character. I feel attraction towards one over the other for periods ranging from a few hours to months. Is it normal to be attracted to both a real person and a fictional character at the same time, and to feel attracted to do different ones at random intervals?

We'll I mean of course it's normal to have an attraction to a fictional character. Just look at how many people are in love with Marceline from Adventure Time. It doesn't mean that real people can't be attractive. I won't give you the whole real people are better than fictional ones speech. I think you know. And I think it's understandable to hold affection to a character from a comic, show, or whatever. I mean she can't hurt you and the fact that she's a great character just make it better. But real people are flawed, but so are those characters, like Marceline, that we fall for.

I think you should stop trying with this real girl though. As you said there is no hope. Try finding another real girl, and move on from this one. If being mesmerized by a fictional character helps then go ahead. But you can't use Nepeta to substitute for the real girl. A fictional character can't love us, as much as we want to. The real thing though, having someone you've fixated on for so long, holding them in your arms, nothing really beats that.

I can't even begin to count how many people I know that are attracted or in love with a fictional character. If a fictional character can make you feel like that, it's the sign of a very well written and thought out character. I personally have a very strong love for Marcus Fenix from Gears of War. I'd go as far as to say that is my dream man lol. But, I've also got a boyfriend in real life. As long as you keep real relationships with real people, you're fine. Almost everyone at some point has felt that way about a fictional character.
