I act totally different when i'm away from my family

I've been living with my parents since i was born (duh). They think they know me and they know my personality. But eversince I had a mind of my own I am a totally different person away from them then when I'm around them. I act the way they want me to act. Should I tell them the truth? Is it normal to act like this?

I was a different person when my family weren't around too. People commented on it and said I was like two different people. Around my family, I seemed to be under a cloud but on my own, I was much more social and entertaining. My mum spotted it and said she wished the happy version of me existed in their presence, but they've kicked it out of me over the years and worn me down to such an extent, it's just not possible.

I think everybody is this way around their family.

I used to be the same, but then I got over it. Now I act like an idiot around everybody :)

  • I'm like this too. No, I don't think you should tell them, it'll disappoint them.

I do the same thing around mine. If you think they'd accept you for who you are, go ahead and tell them. Otherwise, you may want to keep it to yourself until you move out.
