I accidentally crapped my pants

I have really bad bowel problems. I have IBS, and when I'm stressed, any food that's fatty or hard to digest can give me diarhhea that lasts for hours. The worst thing ever, is I have shat my pants, as an adult. Sometimes the diarrhea comes on so fast I leak before getting to the toilet. I'm so embarassed I don't want to tell my doctor. I take medicine, but it doesn't help as much as it should. I've had a few accidents in the past month. I'm afraid that I'm going to shit myself in public. What the hell should I do? I'm sick of this controlling my life.

Fibre has nothing to do with it. I am a personal trainer and have a degree in nutrition. IBS is a debilitating disorder. You should definitely speak with your doctor. Some medications will work better than others and each individual will require different prescriptions.

Don't be afraid to speak with your doctor. Your doctor knows all about IBS and it's unfortunate symptoms. You're is totally natural and could even be a result of the current medication you are on. Your doctor can adjust the medication and also sit down and work out a nutritionally balanced plan for you to ease some of the symptoms.

There is nothing funny about IBS but there are things that can be done to help ease the problems you're dealing with.

  • @sneakyboy and @Ihaveaquestion - no fucking way! Don't be stupid. Wearing adult diapers is no more socially acceptable than shitting your pants, and it's just as gross (still means a mess to clean up). I was out of diapers at 18 months, and have no intention of wearing them as an adult. Don't post if you're only going to say stupid things. It only happens occasionally to me, and never in public, because I don't leave the house if I have diarrhea. I just am sick of being sick to my stomach and unable to leave the house when my IBS is really bad.

I probably will talk to my doctor next time. I never wanted to talk about it since I didn't like my doctor, but my new doctor seems okay.

My heart goes out to you. Could it be Crohn's disease or Colitis?

I was home sick from work for about six weeks with Colitis in 2006 and then in 2009 I had chronic diarrhea for about nine or ten months.

Also if it's alright I'd like to suggest that you try some cognitive therapy and relaxation techniques to help address your stress and anxiety. I hope you find a solution and get to feeling better!

my mum and my friend are like you, even with the medication, it cant always be held in.
its nothing to worry about, just eat a healthy diet and do your business just before you leave the house, aswell as using your medication,.
    this should help prevent it.
