I like how both options in your poll are yes...

Well, my answer is a firm NO! I want to live in an air conditioned house with central heating, running tap water, with all of the waste water going in a sewer. I want to have a room turn from dark to bright with the flick of a switch and look up things on the internet. I want a fridge to keep my food cold and an oven to cook it.

I want to get into my car with heated seats and air conditioning, slap it in Drive and drive to work, where I work in front of a computer and the most manual labor I do is put paper in the printer.

I want to have vacations, where I get on an airplane, hurl through the air at 700kmh towards home, while drinking whiskey. I want to drive to the beach and relax. Have people bring me drinks and food and pay them with money, go fishing with my dad in an engine powered boat, so we don't have to row and when we are done fishing, we load the boat onto a trailer, pulled by a pickup truck (Cause I ain't carrying that shit)

I want to keep all 5 of my "nature killing death machines" (cars) in my garage, have them in perfect working condition and drive for fun. Cars are my hobby and passion and only modern life allows me to have a hobby, or any free time.

I do NOT want to live in a house made of dirt, without glass windows, work from dusk till dawn to care for animals and farmland, consider pork once a month the ultimate luxury and then die from a flu at age 30.

I do NOT want to travel by mule to the next village to have the blacksmith fix, or make a tool that costs everything I make in 2 months. Nor do I want to make candles out of string and animal fat and I definitely do not want to shit like an animal out in the field, or in a pit if I'm fortunate...

In the long run, humanity is destined leave Earth to find a new home. It's the next step in our evolution as we perfect future technologies that will allow our lifestyles to have less of an impact on the environment on other planets.
We will leave the Earth behind with more aggressive weather, but we won't destroy it and make it uninhabitable.

Liberal hippies, as usual, are blowing this thing out of proportion

Liberal hippies? I think you mean a global network of expert scientists who have spent their whole lives researching the effects of carbon emmisions and the rate at which environmental damage is occurring.

Also climate change is a problem we need to solve by the end of the century at the latest (we won't be able to solve it if we don't act within the next 10-20 years). Interstellar travel is centuries away at the earliest.

    • It's unfortunate to see you so dependent on electricity and really you are getting everything wrong about natural life.
Just don't get frustrated when your vehicle don't start or permanent power loss.
You are not born for this.
Evolution doesn't mean destruction of Earth. You will understand what it takes to build up earth like environment on other planet.

No id rather live in luxury with air conditioning and refrigerators. You can though, you can start by shitting in the woods and giving up IIN!

    • You don't need to shit in the woods. Just limit the unnatural things which can be eliminated without running lifestyle.
There was latrine and drainage system in past Roman time And life was independent without electricity I hope that day come soon. Think deeper human.

They also burned A LOT of wood which polluted a lot. How do you think they stayed warm? Burning wood is even worse than coal.

Who needs an island for this?

My country has mass amounts of beautiful untouched land, and a healthy relationship with our nomadic peoples. Thousands of people live the “rough life” and still have access to all of life’s luxuries. And not only here, but I’ve been to a couple Asian countries that do this very very well.

The only ones who act like modern stuff is evil are those weird long bearded dudes in the US. “Homesteading” is a popular trend too.

Yeah, homesteading doesn't appeal to me. I want to win the lottery, and then live in luxury.

Being able to afford to homestead feels like luxury to me! Winning the lottery would just mean I would get to put my efforts elsewhere
I wish I could put all my days work into my land but that doesn’t pay the bills lol

Yeah, I would love to live my 30-year long life with worms, headlice, two buried children, and then eventually end up dying from an infection because the leg I just broke, and set with mud, got infected.

Also your multiple choice options are not good, because I think there should be an option for no, and maybe in order to get a good sample kiddo. Confirmation bias got you so twisted that you can't even give us balanced, and objective multiple choice options.

    • I don't want you people to choose death vs life.
Giving No option means allowing you people to live diseased life
      And destruction of nature.

Yes i'd do it. Most people are lazy pussies, throw trash on the street because they can't walk to a trash can and they talk about zombie apolcalypses and how well they'd do killing zombies. Yeah right good luck with that lazy bums. Let's all go to an island and we'll see which people are actually survivors, let natural selection take care of all the rest. I'd be game for it anyday. Hopefully most people would die off.

No. Think of all that we know today, and all that we have available to us. We are slowly killing the earth, yes. But we are also saving lives, going to space, and talking to people thousands of miles away. Humanity will eventually destroy this world, but what we have achieved is far greater than anything we could do. I dont see the logic behind wanting to live like the past.

    • We are suffering from diseases and next generation will.
Lots of Species dying and in future there will be only contaminated humans.
This must be stopped in time.

"We are suffering from diseases." Hold on a second, Jethro (not referring to the user). Have you never of the lovely invention known as the vaccine. You know who suffered from diseases? The people in the times of smallpox and the Black Plague.

I've kind of thought of doing this type of thing before. However, it was not for environmental reasons. Rather, my thinking is, if a bunch of people agree to live on an island with little technology and me in charge, then my people would be cleansed of the evils of the modern world, and we can start anew. That would never happen, though.

    Hi Edgelord

Let me guess - you also hate puppies, you think babies are selfish assholes , you think love is a lie, and you think everyone dies alone and miserable?

You ought to put a dark blue streak in your hair and listen to some My Chemical Romance to get it out of your system.

It's just a phase and you will grow out of it. Give it time.

I agree that humanity is destroying the Earth but we don't need to give up everything. There's so much about our lives now that we'd kill for if we never had them: medicine, unlimited food + water, insulation, showers, clean clothes, etc. We don't need to be all-or-nothing about it. We could just do our part to help the environment (drive less, eat less meat, buy less crap, etc.) and also try to live more naturally (eat organic food, spend less time in front of screens, etc.).
