If a random person like a cashier girl or hairdresser says about your (bought) interesting hippyish looking bag/purse/jewellery: "That's really nice! Did you make that?"

          Actually I get embarrassed for the person asking. And they laugh nervously as though they think they insulted me. Its an awkward situation. If I was vain I'd buy $300 channel bags.

      So the cashier spots your funky, raggedy bag and smiles and says "that's really nice, did you make that?" Btw there are people behind you in the queue who can hear. And you reply, with no awkwardness or embarrassment for the cashier or for yourself "No, I didn't make it I bought it from hipsters united." Something like that?

        Well no, I would answer more simply "no". I guess everything else you said about people in line matters if you're the type of person who cares what people standing in a line think. Pedhaps you are, and thats fine, but I am not.
