How to stay true to myself?

I'm a high schooler and I have an opinion on something controversial and none of my friends agree with me, at least none that I know of.(I won't say what it is)I never say what I think so my friends won't get mad at me. I don't have that many friends as it is because I'm so shy. I don't think that you should have to change for other people, so how can I keep my opinion without having to necessarily hide it?

Ignore what people say to you 10
Try to explain to them 8

As you may have noticed, I'm not very popular on here because I say what I think and a lot of people do not appreciate the honesty, whether they agree or not with the subject.
But if someone cannot accept that you have a different opinion and still like you, then really, they aren't your friend at all. Stop worrying about what others think, for a real friend will stand behind your right to your opinion, no matter what.
Fuck the others; they aren't worth your time.

What if OP's opinion is that he should join Scientology? Then his friends taking issue with said opinion is their attempt to help him. Not all opinions are equal.

All one can do is offer advice. After that you must understand that further attempts to dissuade will probably have the opposite effect.
Sometimes you have to let even your friends make their own mistakes and be there to pick up the pieces when the time comes.

Sometimes people gain more than they lose from their mistakes. Other times they don't. I don't want to comment directly on OP's case because he's not provided any details, but sometimes "the crowd" is totally totally right. When a group of people stage an intervention, it's usually a more constructive world than when they don't.

Try to understand the other side. Try to prove yourself wrong, to yourself, and if you still hold the same opinion it's all you buddy.

BEST ADVICE: I went through this as I came to age. My opinions grew vast and very different from the social normalcy.

Your best option is compromise. Does not mean you lose, simply do not converse about those topics to those you know will never accept them and you will both be happier. Otherwise if you keep going on about something to non-susceptible person you will have a bad time. Learn to relax (this key to everything), go with the flow and good times will come. Have a good one you peoples you!

I'm shy too and my opinion matters.Don't change who are, maybe you can be nice when giving people your opinion so you don't come across as rude.It depends on the opinion you want to give so if you feel like it needs to be heard then go ahead and say it.

Others can be allowed their own opinions. Just keep the one you believe close to you. If you want, you can look for other like-minded people.

Watch the whole thing. There's a very powerful message in there. It really helped me and hopefully it will help you stay true to yourself.

Take an antidepressant for social anxiety and then it won't matter as much to you probably.
