I'm watching someone's kid and it's too loud, I was hoping for some peace and quiet cause I have some stuff I need to do.

What kind of question is this? The obvious answer is to put tape on its mouth.
You're either making a really crap joke or you're a terrible person; though, thinking about it, it doesn't reflect highly on you either way.
Personally if it were me and if I had a child I would obviously put a pacifier and then rock the baby back and forth gently which would make it feel calmed instead of it crying.
Common sense would tell you what I'm saying.
Poor child who was entrusted to your care. If crying bothers you, next time refuse to watch him. Find out if he needs to be changed, is hungry or maybe misses his parents and needs to be held
Change it's diaper, and get it a bottle.
Normally something is wrong, wet, dirty, hungry, if all that is okay maybe teething or air bubbles. Hold and comfort get a pacifier or something to chew on like baby cookie or cold teething ring.
There is normally a reason may just be tired.
