I think I got my 1st cell phone in the year 2000. Talk and Text was about their standard capability at that time.
This way predated Apple, Samsung, and virtually all companies currently offering cell phones.
I don't recall what brand or model it was. It was a flip phone for the Sprint PCS system.
My 2nd and I believe 3rd cellphone was a Blackberry (and I changed away from Sprint to a local carrier that owns the towers in about 1/2 of Wisconsin for what most know as the Verizon network (I get Verizon nationwide and Canada coverage at a lot less than Verizon prices).
I still miss the qwerty keyboards of the Blackberries. Nothing today is close.
Probably when I was around 12-ish? My mom wanted me to have a phone to call my parents if there was anything important.
My first phone was an old Nokia with an orange screen. No clue what it was called, but the battery in that thing would last over a week. Even if I played Snake a lot on it...
I was 7. It was a simple small Nokia, mostly for communicating with my parents.
If you had a cell phone when I was in HS, you were either rich or it was stolen lol
I think it was 2009, but may have been a little before then.
I was one of those contrary people who kept insisting that I would never get one because I didn't need it. Didn't think that they would catch on.
Yes, I feel very silly now.
No idea, possibly 2001 in my late 20s. A flip phone - LOVED IT!!
Half my 8-9 yo students have one now... they all call me to play Among Us. I do. And kill them all!!! ♡
Like around 18 or 19. I use to have a pager after most people stopped using them. My parents never bought me shit like that. Once I turned 16 I had to buy my own clothes ajd food no money for phones I made $6 an hour.
My first phone was a flip phone, I really don’t remember if texting was a thing in or around Y2K. I worked away and got the phone off eBay and used us cellular as the carrier
25 or 26 in 2004. I remember once in the mid-90s I was in an electronics store tryna get a beeper and this old couple in front of me were getting cell phones. The phones were huge, like cordless house phones, and they had to carry a battery bag for them that was the size of a bread box. Their bill was like $1500 to get that stuff out the door, not sure what the service cost. That's crazy for a fucking phone that can't do anything but calls. Beepers were like $15-20 a month back then. I don't remember what the device cost but it wasn't much for a no frills one.
I think I got my first cell phone when I was like 9 or something. A Nokia button-phone. It was already pretty old by the time I got it. It didn't have a camera, but I could play MP3 songs on it.
19. I didn't see the point in having one, but I needed it for work.
What a fuckin eejit.
I only got a cell phone at 14 Bc my mom was supposed to die. 16 was the age in my family that it was considered appropriate to have a cell phone.
