How often/soon do you try to get ahold of someone?

Say you try to call a friend. Just a friend, and you don't have a reason for calling, so it's not like there's something important or an emergency-you literally have no reason for calling other than to chit-chat. They don't answer the phone. So....how soon do you try to call again?

And please leave a comment as to how often you re-try to get ahold of your friend (how many times do you call back before giving up).

I don't call back, I let them call me back whenever they choose. 22

If I left a message I would wait for them to call me back. If I didn't leave a message, I would just try calling them back maybe later that night or just the next day.

    • Uh, I'm asking because I have a friend that, if I don't answer when he calls, will call back like every 3 minutes for a good hour or so. I didn't think it was normal, just had to make sure. And maybe get to know what his line of thinking is based on what people comment as their experience or behavior.

I personally would either just wait for them to call me back or call back in a day or two.

      • Oh, that doesn't seem like normal behaviour to me; seems more like crazy-stalker.

Maybe your friend doesn't know how to take it easy with the phoning and needs a good friend like you to point it out to them.

        • I wish I could say something but how? If I say something then he'd know that I ignored his calls on purpose, which would likely hurt his feelings.

He calls too often too, I've even told him this, and made up excuses as to why he can't call me this or that day, but he doesn't listen. I HATE talking on the phone, and I don't have stuff to talk about every single day, but he still calls far too much. So it's either I have to talk to him or I have to ignore him, there is no in-between.

Another thing he does is-if I don't answer the phone, he'll go online to look at things like facebook to see if I have been active on any website. He will go and "like" things or otherwise make it known that he is looking at my stuff. It's weird.

I like him, he's a good friend otherwise, just calls too much.

I think your friend is strange and maybe lonely or paranoid that people ignore him. He's got too much time on his hands, direct him to this site where he can comment on things people say.

Feel sorry for him though coz my mom's like this. However, she is 73 and my dad died recently, that's why I think your friend's lonely too.

I do it mathematically. I leave it 12 hours and then, if no answer, a further 24 hours, then a further 48, etc.

If I'm nagging someone at work that I'm project managing, the sequence is reversed.

If I just called to chit-chat, I would likely leave a random 5 minute voice mail and move on to the next activity.

I'd give it a few hours or maybe the next day (depending on the time I called).

I'd wait about half an hour, try again, then if they don't answer again I'll assume they're busy / don't want to talk / don't have their phone on them, so I'll leave them a text instead.
