How much sleep is normal?

I NEVER sleep, I normally sleep every other day for like 2 hours. Is this normal? how much sleep do other people get? If this isn't normal how do you get yourself to sleep more often?

1-2 hours a night 1
3-4 hours a night 1
5-6 hours a night 26
7-8 hours a night 63
9-10 hours a night 26
11+ hours 8
I dont sleep every night 4

    I've been told that 8 hours is the best amount. What you're doing isn't healthy. Too much and too little sleep can have detrimental effects on the body.

      I'm curious as to whether you've ever had sleep paralysis -- this goes to anyone. Like, have you ever woken up and not been able to move. It's very common in people who don't stick to the same sleeping pattern.

    It's normal, but it's not healthy. Try avoiding naps as much as you can.

  • I am a college student, so most of my time is doing hw, in class, or with friends. I normally stay on the phone with friends till 4-5am (friends that don't have class in the morning) then have to wake up at 6am to go to class. Some nights I cant get to sleep after being on the phone because I am so worked up in what we were talking about, so I go about my next day. My biggest problem is friends.... how do you make them shut up so you can go to bed when your a talkative person? I've tried the whole "turn your phone off" thing but then my mom will try to call at like midnight (when I should be sleeping), and if I dont answer I wake up to 30 missed calls, and frantic facebook messages and emails. now that I see how unhealthy it is... SO HOW DO I SHUT PEOPLE UP, so I can sleep?

  • Usually about 6 to 9 hours is healthy. 5 hours is not healthy.

    It depends how old you are,

    but for must people that use this website (15-18) i think that 9 hours is recommended, however i doubt anyone does get 9 hours, i usually get about 7, 8 on a good night

    They say you should get about 8 hours but I have the weirdest sleeping patterns and can find myself still functioning on even a few hours. Then again, I think I have sleeping problems and should try and fix it eventually. Every other day for 2 hours sounds like you really should get more rest because I don't know anyone who does that. It can't be too healthy.

    During the week about 5-7 hrs, only cause my body is in a bad pattern. Weekends I get 12 hrs and can do more, but I have to take care of errands and party with friends.

    Ideally though if I get 8-9 hrs I'm great. Less than 7 I feel like crap, gets progressively worse the fewer hrs I get.

    I sleep about 3-4 hours per night. Usually around 3 1/2.
