How much is the age requirement enforced on iin.com?

I was just curious about how much the 18+ age requirement is enforced on IIN. If a person is under 18 (hypothetically, I'm not saying it's me of course) writes maturely and intelligently and doesn't act like a little kid all the time, will he get banned if its generally known that he's under 18?

Strictly enforced no matter what 4
Lip service paid to enforcement 14
Age requirement is just a suggestion 25
No adults allowed here 5
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

It's not massively enforced. You've signed a disclaimer so if anything really does offend you, you can't sue the site based on your age, because you've technically lied. I think the restriction is more to cover the site legally, rather than to keep you away.

I've always said that I would have found this site very useful before I was eighteen (especially when my friends' advice was, in retrospect, ridiculous). Having unbiased opinion from people would have been brilliant. For that reason, even if people say outright "I am fourteen" in a post, if they have a reasonable question, I try to give a reasonable answer. It seems very mean to me to say, "You're not 18 yet so you're not getting any advice on something that's worrying you". I'd rather just help.

So in short, no, I don't think you'll get banned. I know users who are very open about not yet being 18. It never crosses my mind that they shouldn't be here. The opposite, in fact. I'm glad they are here. I try to remember how the world looked when I was still at school and answer appropriately, but it does me no harm to be reminded every so often. It's not an easy age. Even worse if you've got a bunch of online "adults" telling you off for doing very little wrong.

      This.

I would have loved to have heard of this site when I was underaged. If not to post questions but to read what other people have posted.

The world can be lonely if you don't know whether or not you are the only human being that has certain thoughts, dreams or fantasies.

    • thats good to know. I hate how people talk down to others just because they're a lot younger.

I like the last option. "No adults here". LOL

  • It used to be that if anyone admitted to being under 18 their account vanished within hours. Today it seems they've become much more lenient.

  • It's definitely lip service.

There are a small handful of members here that are under 18 but are fantastic contributors and it really is quite difficult to tell their comments and stories apart from an adult's. I think the majority of the minors on IIN are noticeably under the age limit, but even with that, they are still very welcome here. :)

If you act mature on IIN, you won't likely get banned, regardless of your age.

    I don't understand your question?
Nor do I understand most of the replies.

When you sign up you agree to be over 18 + You adhere to the Terms and Conditions (TOS) http://isitnormal.com/help/tos

    "Membership Eligibility:

isitnormal.com is intended for people 18 or over. We have also made an effort to specifically limit isitnormal.com’s appeal to people of age 18 and older. isitnormal.com will not knowingly collect any information from children under 18 or any other minors whatsoever. Isitnormal.com takes the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) as well as all FTC regulations very seriously. We are also strong supporters and maintain strict compliance with the Rules and Regulations set forth thereunder. That being said, we do not assume any responsibility for any misrepresentations regarding your age or parental consent when using this site. If we determine, however, that you have been falsely using this site in contradiction to the terms of this User Agreement, we will terminate your membership and all information associated therewith immediately unless you can verify that you have obtained parental consent to use this site."

    > Please note, as stated this is LAW.
If IIN is breaking the law, banning members or removing accounts is the least of its concern!

Since this topic has already been answered FULLY in the TOS, I recommend Mods remove it immediately as irrelevant.
You cannot have a poll is it ok if this site is illegal.
This site is LEGAL as the best of the management's understanding.
Therefore the only answer is > STRICT ruling.

Mods: Please remove this topic. These topics only place doubt on an otherwise good site.

They have no way of knowing unless you yourself state that you're under 18.

If you mention that you're under 18 in a comment or a post and a mod sees it, you will (or are supposed to) be banned.

    ------
There are obviously younger users here that don't disclose their age and thus, their accounts remain active.
The age limit is more for legal purposes due to the nature of some of the posts on this site.

    ------
I'm always willing to give younger users advice and I'd be glad if they aren't banned immediately so that they can at least stick around long enough to read it.

That is untrue. Many of the underage post get through somehow anyhow.

Well I think the mods also want to give them a chance to get an answer, even if they shouldn't be here.
Sometimes the post will be approved AND the account deactivated.

Oh really? Also if they delete the persons profile how do they find the post?

I have personally never seen it enforced. I'm starting to think they are almost encouraging it or just not bothering moderating properly.
A few times I have wrote out a non silly, simple intelligent post and I have been rejected. I am 18. Yet so many times I have seen posts with the sentence "today my friends from the same high school as me" in. That clearly just screams underage and breaking the rules. Yet the people who make the rules let it go through. And then they reject 18 year olds intelligent posting like mine. Why? I do not understand.
If the person was underage and their post was well written, intelligent and not about high school or other typical teenaged problems then I do not mind at all. Go ahead. It's just the immature ones. There are other and better sites than IIN for teens to get advice from.

I don't think TheManagement sees any point in banning regulars who admit to being under 18. A lot of adults like having those members who are under 18 here, and not many of us want to see the site being purged of a whole group of members many of whom are valuable members of the community. If you can't string a sentence together or say anything that makes sense I think you'll probably get banned whether you're 14 or 24. I think some under 18s here feel some sort of pressure (imagined or real) not to act too immaturely, and that's no bad thing.

I always think that *how* someone acts is much more important than *what* they say in terms of how valuable they are to a community. If you can conduct yourself properly, if you can have a laugh, tell a joke, produce an understandable paragraph, make a salient point or ask an honest question then you're more than welcome to be here. I don't care how old you are. Neither should anyone else.

If the problem of immaturity is what most users don't like then it doesn't matter if age is an indicator of immaturity. Why target the indicator when you can target the problem?

I'm under 18 and I've survived with no problems :P

im oky with younger users, cause there are plenty of under 18 users that are miles more mature then of age users, its a case by case bases.

There are many users under 18 that are far more mature than some adults will ever be.

  • If IIN has an age requirement, judging by half of the post I don't think you have to be over the age of 4 to post.

I've seen people post their age and get canned. If you post your age, amture ot not, you run the risk.

There are a number of people who are not yet eighteen, but I've also seen the management ban a few people because they admitted in the comments section that they weren't eighteen.

It is not well enforced. This is not the managements fualt. People are lying about age I think they need to put a drone to go around the website searching for underage people.

Me to moderate? No I am not going to rat out the minors since I would feel terrible If I did. I unlike alot of people here am of the age limit. The few who know I do not think told anyone. I am over 18 but I refuse to give out my age. The smart ones figures it out so I had ti tell them. I do not lie about my age but I do not like to advertise my age, name and location like nost the people on the website. I am not kijlt to give out name of the minors but we do have alot of them. Also forgive my errors I am on phone. Impossible type on damn touchscreen.

You're telling me you're not underage, wont lie about your age, refuse to give up your age, have the grammar of a 3rd grader, and you are over 18?

Yes I am over 18. You are not very smart are you? You know you come off as a jerk in all your post. Not just with me. Your replies to things are very childish and I atleast have a piont to mine. Why is it so outstanding I am 18? Also I fixed my grammar and you are not on alot or else you might know no one ever checks grammar on the internet atleast every other site they do not. I know you want to assume we are all as young as you but I am one of the few who is not lying. The one who knows my age is Ghost and Charli but they are going to think you are very stupid too. I think from your posts you are very childish and I do not want to listen to a troll try and tell me off. So fuck you troll go back to hiding under the bridge.

Im actually quite intelligent. And I "come off a jerk in all your post"? (Spelling, again...haha) In case you didn't know, missy, this IS the internet. I can be as big of a dick as I want to be. I was never intending to be one until you became hostile, now i find it faintly amusing. And no, you did not fix your grammar, it's still pretty fucking atrocious, and of course no-one checks it, who cares? A typo here and there is no biggie, but you literally talk like you're five years old. I would know, my five year old brother has better grammar than you do. "I know you want to assume we are all as young as you" - Quite frankly, I don't give a fuck. I just found it funny you act like a child, talk like a child, claim you would never lie about not being a child, and yet... claim you arent. If you ARENT a child, you have my pity for lack of education, and common sense. And no, i'd rather not know your "age , name, and location," though my guess is ten years old, an inbred little girl named buck, living in the incest-ridden state of alabama. Good day, young lady. :)

Also why do you want my age , name, and location? Why not give you my credit card number after that? I like to keep some imformation private and this is why I do not put up a picture. I do not put my pics on facebook. I do not put it on chatango and I do not put it on facebook and yes I am over the age of 18. Fine if you are so brave will you give me your credit card number and age and location? I think maybe the keys to your house? Yes that will be very nice to have!!!
