How much fluid do you drink (on average) per day?

The answers are in metric because it's the only system that is standardised. But, if it helps you convert:

For the US:
One US fl. oz. = 29.57ml
One US liquid pint = 473.18ml
One US dry pint = 551ml (I'm guessing this may not be relevant)
A US standard Coke can = 12 fl. oz. = 354.88ml
A US standard Coke bottle = 20 fl. oz. = 591.47ml
One "fifth" of whisk(e)y = 750ml

For the non-US:
One Imperial (non-US) fl. oz. = 28.41ml
One Imperial (non-US) pint = 568.26ml
A non-US standard Coke can = 330ml
A non-US standard Coke bottle = 500ml
A non-US bottle of whisk(e)y = 700ml

Include everything you take in liquid form. Water, juice, coffee, tea, milk, soup, soft drinks, beer, spirits. Ice cream isn't included unless it's melted (i.e. in a milk shake). Fruit also isn't included unless it's been juiced (or you know the equivalent amount of juice in the whole fruit).

0ml - 500ml 6
500ml - 1000ml 14
1000ml - 1500ml 7
1500ml- 2000ml 16
2000ml - 2500ml 13
2500ml - 3000ml 7
3000ml - 4000ml 5
4000ml - 5000ml 4
5000ml - 6000ml 6
6000ml - 7000ml 2
7000ml - 8000ml 1
8000ml - 9000ml 1
9000ml - 10000ml 2
10000ml - 12500ml 1
12500ml - 15000ml 0
15000ml + 8

They're close enough. We're drinking water here, not creating vaccines or something. I'll drink the difference in whiskey!!!

        • Close enough? Wow. Don't ever become an engineer. One is 3.7 litres and the other is 4.5 litres. It's like saying someone who is 4'11" and someone who is 6' are close enough. Either way, it's 23% out.

    Hiya,

I read that too little salt can make you thirsty. I drink a lot, too. I only feel ill if/when I don't. Strangely when I was little I hardly drunk a thing.

I drink around 2litres of fluids sometimes even more I have a can of diet coke first thing in the morning, loads of coffee and tea, then some more diet coke. I'm constantly peeing.

If you drink 7 litres of water, YOU WILL DIE.

              -
            • If you drink it all at the same moment, you could die. But the question was about a 24 hour period. Are you really saying that 292ml of liquid each hour would kill you? The body does excrete, you know.

Why are you so keen to think I'm lying to you?

What's a dry pint when liquid is envolved? It sounds like an empty mason jar ( we use those in the US ) That makes me thirsty!!!

    • I've no idea. We don't have it here. My instinct says that it's a pint of grain or somesuch but I don't know why it would be different. Hmm, unless it's because grain has air gaps between it so it's to compensate for that. If I'm right, I'm giving myself three gold stars for this.

If I had to guess I'd have to say about 2 gallons. I drink a shit ton of water all day long i always have a cup of ice water with me. And other than that I normaly have 1 coke and 2 glasses of juice and a glass of chocolate milk with my meals. I also pee all the time because of how much water i drink lol

      • dirtybirdy

I'm always moving. My job is fairly physical, I go up and down stairs countless times a day, I play with my dogs, do yard work etc. I don't eat much salt either. I never put it on my food. Mostly what i drink is coffee, water and carrot juice. And almond milk sometimes. What's the diagnosis ma'am? :)

Haha. I was curious because that's quite a bit of water, and taking in TOO much water can be unhealthy, especially if you're not getting enough salt. I don't really know what the threshold is though.

Of course as a student and lover of the sciences you are aware that inches and cubits are measures of length not volume.

        Remember, CUBIC cubits & inches!!!

        • PapzBSlim

I believe it is from the water intake. I myself have never suffered with skin problems. I think people who have enough water intake, not juices and sodas, clear their body of toxins more efficiently.

Anywhere between 1 to 2 litres. But you should count fruit and veggies in whole form, it still has liquid. If I eat a lot of fruit, I won't drink nearly as much liquid.
