How much do you make at your job?

I've seen some posts from people talking about the difference in their wages even though they do similar jobs. I'm just curious to see what the difference in pay is for different jobs so I'm kind of polling to see:

1: What is your job? And what do you get paid per hour?
2: What is the minimum wage where you live?

Minimum wage in Australia is $17.29 per hour flat rate, with 25% loading if casual, to make up for no holiday pay or sick leave.

I work on adult sex lines on a contract and earn 60c a minute while on calls.

      Do you enjoy your work?

Not much, most of the time it's extremely boring. I do it because I can't afford rental on government benefits

Thank you for replying. I could imagine the novelty would wear off pretty quickly - but is there money to be made in owning that type of call centre?

Well yeah, or I wouldn't bother, but I don't own it, I just log into the call centre from my home phone and can work as much or as little as I want. It's very variable: I never know when I log on whether it's going to be totally dead or really busy. I have quite a few regulars who do long calls but most calls are only 2 or 3 minutes.

The owners of the actual call centre certainly make much more money out of it than I do, given that the callers are charged between $2.95 and $5.95 a minute and Telstra takes a cut of each call too. I could set up my own call centre but then I'd have to pay for all the advertising, which is expensive.

In the U.S.A. the minimum wage is 7.50$

I have no idea how that equates with our $s but it doesn't sound much to me

It isn't. America isn't a rich country anymore

I think it is still rich, it's just the wealth isn't divided up fairly

From the American friends I have spoken too, if you consider only the bare essentials required to survive (rent, food, utilities) it is about 3/4 of our minimum wage. It's hard to compare not having enough to survive in one country with not having enough to survive in another country though.

I'm in Australia on a Disability Pension, which (with rent assistance) pays about $500 per week. Not much when the rent on the shithole I'm living in costs $300 per week, and Australia has one of the highest costs for utilities in the entire world.

As Elleena said, minimum wage here is a little over $17 an hour, not that this is a factor to me any more.

Oddly, I've lived my life a bit backwards. I started off 30 years ago earning $180 an hour as a specialised communications programmer. Over time I've actually earned less with almost every subsequent job, mainly because I never had "bits of paper" (which didn't really exist for IT work when I started). I've also had a few businesses in my time, all of which failed for one reason or another (most of the failures chronologically aligned with my 3 failed marriages, so maybe that had something to do with it...)

I'm an independent contractor and make between $15-$20 an hour after taxes depending on the job.

I'm in America, so minimum wage is I believe 7.25/hour.

I've of course worked a minimum wage job.

    As for my "real jobs"

My first was a receptionist at a law office, where I made...I think $15/hour to start, I got promoted twice, to legal assistant and then paralegal, where I made...I think $25/hour with a bonus for billable hours, but that was a long time ago.

I worked at an art studio (for faux finishing), and started at $20/hour, and also got promoted twice, and ended up at $25/hour and $50/hour whilst teaching art classes- which was nice because our classes lasted all day for a week and happened about once every 1-2 months.

I then switched over to full time cabinetry and furniture refinishing, cabinetry refinishing, faux finishing, light construction, and managing subcontracted remodels...(that's like plaster work, murals, wall finishes, stencilling, etc), where I started at $20/hour and got promoted to $23/hour, but that was without benefits, and I was an IC, so my taxes were not taken out of my pay check and I had to register myself as an LLC, so the money was not as good as it seems.

Probably the best money I ever made was doing the same- cabinetry, furniture, and wall finishes on my own. I usually charged between $5,000 and $7,000 per job, sometimes $10,000, and a typical job would take 1-3 weeks.

I couldn't do that full time, though, because not every job can be done on site, and in order to make a business of it, I'd have to rent a warehouse, hire people, purchase an HVLP, etc etc etc...so I only did that part time when I needed to supplement my money.

My least favorite job EVER was working doing research for an environmental science firm on soil remediation and rubberised asphalt. I had to talk to government employees and engineers all day about specs and make spreadsheets. That was HELL ON EARTH for like $15/hour or something not worth it.

I think that's all the jobs I've had.

Oh yeah...I'm currently unemployed as I'm moving to another country. As for future job choices, it should be interesting because Australia offers quite a few apprenticeship opportunities, which are simply not a thing in America.

I work as a contract employee for a entertainment management company I get a flat salary every month regardless of the job. Also some benfits like a car that was leased for me. I'm not going to say how much I make but its plenty to live on and indulge in the things I like.
