How many people think its wrong to be gay?

How many people believe that being gay is wrong or gross? Just wondering, since I know lots of folks repress their thoughts on the subject and this is a nice anonymous place to ask.

I'm shocked at how fast mainstream/general society has done a complete 180 on the issue if I'm honest.

I'm very young, only 22, and even I kinda remember a time when homosexuality was a LOT more taboo and stigmatised than it is now.

It seems like 2010 happened and suddenly most people decided "new decade, being gay is ok now!", because I can pinpoint it to just about that kind of time when I first felt it changing. It really happened that suddenly.

Totally agree...it's a worldwide problem, as a matter of fact..
I'm all ok with them, as long as you act like normal people...

I love the gays. I think they're fantastic. Quite frankly it's no one's business.

So it is okay to express yourself and your feelings. But not okay for someone to disagree? So is it fantastic or nobody's business. It's your business to think it is fantastic.

So which is it? You can't have it both ways. For the record I am indifferent to any sexual conduct between consenting adults.

I used to think so when I was younger. That was just how I grew up but we never really talked about it. The first time a friend of mine came out (we were 16) I had to change my worldview quite fast. He knew I was a christian and he literally asked me if I thought it was wrong that he was gay. He wasn't teasing, he was really worried about that. How could I have told him it was wrong? I knew I didn't believe that. I admired his honestly and his courage.

I'm still a christian today, but I found out that Jesus never actually talked about homosexuality and he never judged the outcasts of society. Instead he hung out with them and loved them unconditionally. The only people he really called out were the judgemental religious people pointing fingers. So in my ignorance I thought I was being righteous when I was the least christian I could have been.

It is funny how Christians choose which parts of the bible they want to follow and which ones they want to ignore. When Jesus hung out with prostitutes they quit being prostitutes. He didn't say well that's okay.

That's a good observation. And I'll have to get a little theological here, I hope you don't mind. If you do, just don't read it ;)
It's true that I choose to value certain parts of the bible more than others. To me the essence of being a Christian means following the teachings of Jesus Christ (hence the name). So that's why I generally go with his take on things. That's also part of the reason I'm a pacifist even though many believers will use their faith to justify violence, as there's so much violence in the old testament. However I see Jesus saying we are to love our enemies and he tells Peter to lay down the sword so that's what I'm trying to do.

And yes, most followers of Jesus during his time left their old lifes behind. Including prostitutes. But he never judged them and I hardly think they chose this profession as a life style choice. The point is he didn't really talk about it. Sex isn't the focus of his message. He was all about unconditional love and forgiveness and about trying to better one's self before trying to better others.
However in today's Christianity we're often making a HUGE deal out of sexual things and go point fingers, while ignoring our own greed and lovelessness - Which are things that seemed to bother Jesus a lot more.

But I don't want to be a hypocrite myself, so I'll admit I also accept gays cause it just feels like the right thing to ME. I can understand trying to get someone to quit being a prostitute out of love for them. I don't see the love in trying to make someone straight. So even if it was a sin I could not judge them, because in that moment I wouldn't love them. That would be very unlike Jesus.

But hey, maybe I'm wrong. totally accept that possibility. All I can do is try.

        Sorry for the long text

Jesus didn't directly say anything about gays. He did however say to follow his father. His father (if you are a Christian who accepts the Bible as God's word) does talk about it in the OT and NT.

            Again true.
He also said: "You do not know Me or My Father. If you knew Me, you would know My Father as well."
And he said that to the pharisees, the scholars of their time and those who would have known best about the scriptures.
Jesus keeps implying over and over again that the image of the father is revealed in him. Many of the things Jesus is teaching seem to contradict the god of the old testament - I totally admit that. So I try to go with what makes sense to me:
As John writes: "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." This to me is the image of god Jesus seemed to reflect.
I am certain that gays are sinners. Just as I am a sinner and everyone else. I can not judge them for I don't see their hearts, I can only love them.

And as I said, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the whole book is horseshit. (Sorry if that offends anyone, I just try to be honest) But even if there was no god I'd still want to live this way. In this cold and often terrible world we live in love is the only thing that really makes sense to me.

I am an Atheist, let me counter that the Bible (Yes i do have one, my wife is a christian , burn me if you want) says NOTHING about your lord condemning Homosexuals , tell me pleasee tell me what verse it is are you refering to man's creation? Why man and woman were created? Your lord never said anything about Homosexuality being a sin my friend

First of all I'm a Christian so burning/killing someone is a sin as God has created us all for human creation. We tend to not judge others since it is up to God. I have friends that are gay, lesbians, or bisexual and I still talk to them although I'm a Christian because God said in the Ten Commandments "Love Thy Neighbor",

I love how in the 21st Century, the number of devout "Christians" suddenly increases 10-fold whenever the topic of homosexuality (or abortion) comes up.

You are probably not a virgin before marriage, you're probably fine supporting divorce, have used condoms, etc etc. You're so "Christian" though.

Half of the stuff you just said makes no sense, please rephrase that a bit etc etc. First of all don't always assume that kind of bull of what you just said such as "You're so Christian though and you're probably fine supporting divorce or have used condoms etc" becuz you don't always know what a person has been through or done in their life so for that particular reason. Also, us Christians are against divorce, gay marriage and abortion for many reasons unlike you would know or assume because you're probably too much of an aethist.

What I said makes perfect sense if you could understand the nuance of what I'm saying.

"becuz you don't always know what a person has been through or done in their life so for that particular reason."

Why you telling me this? I'm not the one judging.

I'm not actually judging people who have had a divorce or use condoms. I'm simply pointing out the hypocrisy of self-righteous "Christians" who do all that un-Christian shit themselves, and then bash gay people because it's "against Christianity".

I don't give a shit if they have a divorce or use condoms, I'm not against that. But if you're claiming Christianity, don't do that shit and then take a holier-than-thou attitude to others who break the rules.

Well like you said in your 4th paragraph I wouldn't be surprised if some Christians actually do those things in this world but I was telling you that above because you brought up why Christians are against or bash against gay people well it's because of many reasons such as Christians can be against gay marriage, abortion and divorce since it states that for our religious teachings and in the bible perhaps.

Ok and every single one of those "many reasons" to be against homosexuality is baseless, because the bottom fucking line of the matter is homosexuality is victimless.

              Bye now.

I never read anywhere in the Bible where Jesus talks about hate, or promoting hate about anything.
Politicians of all types use religion to promote their cause, and if it works to have people hate other people, and it helps them get elected...

So many Christians act so anti-Christlike.
    It is disgusting.

I'm not gay, but I will fight foe their human rights.

I figure if Religion/Government needs to get into the gays bedroom, what is going to stop them from coming into my bedroom.

Most people that hate are either:
    1-Ignorant
    2-Afraid

My problem with gays is they flash their feelings with their partners out in public. Save that shit for behind close doors, not everyone feels as gay as you!

I don't kiss or grab my wife or girlfriend out in public, this is private. Besides, my life is not a peepshow!

It is unatural. Nature didn't presume it for the survival of the species. If it had we would be able to breed with either gender. While it may be normal. It isn't natural.

It's totally and completely unnatural. People have been swept up in the sunshine of political correctness, in so doing rational thinking has been short circuited so the average person today will argue that it is natural.

Being homosexual is an alternative lifestyle choice. It will never be anything except this. It will never be natural because it will never produce new offspring.

It's more accepted today. But soon things will change.

I don't care about the social aspects of it. I neither promote or condemn it. I am just saying it is unnatural in a scientific view because it doesn't help in the survival of the human species.

I don't have problems with gay people, as long as I don't see them around me..it's all fine...I like gay porn (male to male)...I'm woman.

If by chance my eyes scope a dyke,I really hate it. I feel all of them have a smug face something. I sometimes have short hair and dress more neuter, if they try to check me out, I have a impulse to punch them.

But all in all I heard many gay people are very nice, then I'm ok with them.

You don't want them around you? I guess like shopping or eating in a restaurant?

But you like watching them cornhole one another on video?

That makes total sense. After all I enjoy porn with beautiful women, but run screaming when I see them buying grapefruit juice.

I scream go back to Africa! Piss my pants, tip their cart over and run like I am on fire.
