How many of you are still on “covid unemployment”?

There is work to be had. Lots of it. For those who lost their job, what did you do to get it back? Did you change careers? Take a shittier job cause it was available? Or are you still on unemployment?

I was on unpaid vacation for 4 months in 2020 (while paying full taxes), but that's over now (Thank God!)

I'm working half hours at the dealership, half hours as a bus driver + Saturdays on intercity bus duty, my business is still closed, my employees are on government covid checks, but I still pay them a little extra something as a bonus, so they stick around. Trusted employees are very hard to find.

Still, slowly, but surely, I've been in the red for most of 2020 and still in the red, 3 months in 2021. Hopefully once the EU vaccination passports are out, we'll be back in business!

Girlfriend's been out of a job ever since her cafe shut down. She was a waitress with no other experience, so naturally nobody wants to hire her for anything. But with me working 2 jobs, I can still cover our expenses and keep losses fairly low, but still...
I hate losing money! And my savings account ain't bottomless!

The only upside is that I got lower monthly payments on both of my vans for my business and on my C350e. Apparently VW and Mercedes have a soul...

I just want this bullshit to end and live normal again.

I hope they don't have Long Covid. When someone has Long Covid they'll still have covid symptoms long after they've had it. It really messed up one of my boyfriend's friends. She still coughs and feels tired all the time and she had it months ago. She always ate healthy, exercised, and never did drugs. She can't exercise anymore when she tries. I don't understand why this happened to her.

It’s hard to tell when kids are feeling sick bc they still want to play and do stuff.

Good luck. I hope it's just a cold. I wouldn't wish long covid on anyone after seeing how my boyfriend's friend turned out.

I've been on the PUA (for self employed) on and off constantly. Some weeks I make enough in my businesses to not qualify; but, not recently.

Covid-19 has left me with some long term health effects and significantly affected all 4 of my businesses.

I'm not sure that I can save some of those businesses; and recently decided I need to move into blogging and social media marketing as my health is good enough to sit at home and work on the computer, vs being out and about for long days doing different stuff. I should be setting that up in a few weeks (I've been reading and looking for editorial assistance, etc.).

My clients just worked from their home, so I just had to accommodate the two of them on constant phone calls while I wrangled their crazy toddler. Even in our harshest lock down, going out for exercise was permitted so we just went to places to run around, even when the playgrounds were closed.

It's been expensive, though, cos I've swapped public transport for ubers. I live with my 90 year old grandmother. I'm not fucking with that shit.

        shit breaks every day

especially the garbage theyre makin these days

usually its parts changin but sometimes parts aint available so once in a while i can be creative

and if that dont work then the whole whatnot needs changed out and the replacement never fits the footprint from the old one

and havin the vision to step back and say 'this way is fucked up lets do somethin different' helps too

I am. It's quite hard but i'm geting by, i'm pretty good with money (I don't like spending it hehe) but mentally it's somewhat draining to just be at home all day. It's extra hard due to where I live and not having a license, i'd need to take the bus everyday if I got a job most likely and no one uses masks. Doesn't seem very safe. But i'm looking anyway, hoping for the best.

I got 2 weeks off in total due to lie sales. Rest of the time has been non stop overtime. Its good to be working

I never stopped working. Target was still giving me 40 hours a week. I did quarantine for like two weeks when someone from my department got it, but that was it. Target paid me for that quarantine time too.

Sis in law works in USA, at one point she was making more by not working. She makes almost $14 an hour and even now with $300 plus $246 from state she is only $14 short of normal pay and they have wavied any requirement to look for a job because of covid.
Brother is still working actually making more because more overtime is available.
Ask them they think covid has been a windfall.
Not so outside the US, we can go get. Food assistance but you may have to wait in a line and take your chances at covid. I'm lucky job cut back some, but kept most working.

    • Do you like working for target? I think I need to change my attitude as to what an acceptable job is.

The best way to get consistent hours from there is to crosstrain in multiple departments. I'm there 40 hours a week because of it. I honestly like working at Target. My only complaint right now is that I get pulled in all sorts of directions when they need backup in other departments. It's kind of stressful, but kind of fun in a weird way. XD

        • They were offering 15/hr at the two targets nearest me during the height of the pandemic... I really didnt want to be surrounded by a bunch of potentially sick people back then

Yeah, there's still a bit of risk working at Target right now. A lot of customers don't follow mask protocol and my coworkers will come to work even when they're sick and will refuse to leave when told. The entire Starbucks Team had Covid and they had no one to cover starbucks for a while because of it. The entire time I was working during the pandemic I just kept my distance from people, washed my hands frequently, and wore a mask. I still do.

I lost my job 3 times thanks to covid. First two companys went under. Third they thought I had covid and dismissed me. In none of those cases was I elligable and now I am moving cities. Becuase maybe ill have better luck some place else. First job made us sign we wouldn't sue fir unemployment when we left. Second one was paid in cash so clearly didn't have unemployment rights. Last one I was basically fired for being sick. So... :) Naw I just fucked in general but clearly Im employable. Found three different jobs during a pandemic. I very likely to be homeless soon but its fine. Also am shocked I haven't actually gotten it yet considering my family history of asthmatics, breathing and heart issues.

I had to go back to school. Dodged a bullet too because I was going into the pipe fitting trade before school. Biden just removed those jobs so yeah. Covid unexpectedly saved me from winding up in an oversaturated career.
