Assuming you aren't going to read them all at once, and may have to renew one or two a month, how many books is it "okay" to check out from a library that has about 100,000 books and no check out limit?

How many is reasonable and "okay"? Somewhere around as many as you can reasonably read in the time allotted. This varies from person to person. If you can read ten in a month and that's how long you go between library visits, then ten or so is reasonable, even twelve since there may be one or two you thought you'd like but decided not to read after all.
There isn't a problem unless you start checking out WAY too many just because you can, not because you are planning on reading or using them. Can read eight, but check out twenty four? Might be a problem that inches into hoarding territory.
Just go for it and check out as many as you can reasonably deal with. If you start checking out so many that it becomes a problem for you in finding all of them to return or something, then cut back. If not, enjoy! Reading is something to be proud of, even reading a LOT.
Ten to fifteen is about right.
Then again, I conduct extremely thorough research.
I think it depends on how frequently u visit ur library, I wouldn't get too many, so that you bother the librarian and the people in line behind you, but get enough to entertain yourself.
I used to take anywhere from 10-17 books. I can usually finish a book and a half in a day, so I'd always wind up reading them all without having to renew them.
As many as you want. I used to go there, I miss it (should really go more) and get about 3-5 for a month.
