How many animals have you eaten bits of in the past 24 hours?

Rules for this question:

I want you to add up how many distinct animals you have eaten parts of. We're not doing dairy produce (because cheese, say, can contain milk from a whole herd). It's just meat.

So, if you had a turkey, ham and pastrami sandwich, the minimum number of animals eaten is three (because all the meats come from different animals). Add three to your count if you had one of these.

If you have two rashers of bacon, we'll make the assumption they came from the same pack and hence (probably) the same pig. So bacon sandwich with two rashers only adds one to your count.

However, if you have a ham and pepperoni pizza, the two meats are very unlikely to come from the same animal, so add two to your count.

Use your common sense on this. You don't need to include the animal products that end up in jelly, cheese, chocolate, candy, and all the other sneaky things. Just meat that is obviously meat.

What's your count?

    Lunch - Nothing.

    Dinner - Toast and tea.

  • I have a favorite recipie for veggies:

    1) feed vegetables to cow, chicken, or pig
    2) butcher and season cow, chicken, or pig
    3) sear or slow smoke beef, chicken, or pork over hot coals.

    enjoy!

I have a recipe for meat eaters:

If you want to move away from meat, then fish, invertebrates, and plants are moving away from it.

If you want to move more towards it, then butchering your family and eating their flesh is the way to go.

      Pick a direction. ;)

I ate wings earlier, about a dozen of them, each chicken has two wings so that means at least 6 chickens died. Also had some kebabs so that's another cow down, and a tuna sandwich, which is at least one more dead fish. The answer would be 8 if I haven't forgotten anything.

At least four… buffalo chicken pizza (which may or may not have been a single animal), lamb vindaloo, chả giò, & spaghetti made with ground turkey sausage (which–if we're honest with ourselves–was probably a melange of several animals).

I'm at zero (and the OP) and it won't let me vote on my own poll, despite me adding an option for me to vote on (and being the OP). Secretly the option was there as a "common sense" measure, anyway. If sixteen people vote "I'm the OP" then I'll know lots of people aren't taking it seriously. :P

None; I've been a vegetarian for almost 4 years. But some things I thought I could eat have gelatin or something in it, so I've accidentally eaten it, but now I check the ingredients carefully. I do eat dairy products because the animals weren't killed in the process of making it. I just don't like the thought of eating the flesh of a slaughtered animal. Most imitation meat is really good, even if you're not a vegetarian I would recommend at least tasting it. :)

I really don't know. That's unlike me. I had chicken soup and who knows how many chickens were used to make it...but now I'm hungry and realized I've not consumed nearly enough protein today. That explains so much.

So if you had ground beef that means you've eaten pieces of hundreds and perhaps thousands of different cattle.

Where's the option for ground meat?
