How long after you get a cartlidge piercing should it hurr?

O got a cartlidige piercing a little over a week ago, and it said to put the rubbing alcohol on 3 times a day (Which I do) and to turn it 3 times a day, which I do. But it still hurts. Is it normal for it to feel uncomforatble while I sleep?

Actually, you are supposed to turn a new piercing because you dint want the hole to close around the post. Alcohol though is very drying and you want to get a solution made specifically for piercing because peroxide is just as bad. Alcohol can be used in a pinch but us not something you want to use often. Cartilage piercing can be sore for quite a long time especially if it's the side you sleep on. As long as it's not red and swollen or pussy you should be fine. I worked piercing ears for over 10 years so I do have experience and know what I am saying. You can always call somewhere that does piercings if you are unsure of what to do.

Ur not supposed to turn piercings or put alcohol on them... I dont know who told you that, but puncture wounds are different than other wounds... Put some pure oil on it and stop turning!!!!! Try vitamin e oil

I got mine like a year ago and it's the ear I sleep on. In like a month it should stop hurting like constantly, but if you sleep on it, it will get irritated a lot!;)

It's going to take some time...and it may never really be comfortable. I had that done as a kid and could never sleep or lay on it...even years later.

  • Yes, it will take a little while to calm down, until your body recovers from the physical trauma. Try to lay a different way when sleeping until then.

Ive had mine done for five years and it only stopped hurting last year. I put a little ring in it instead of a stud and it worked. It also depends where on your cartilage you have it done. Mine is more towards the top. So maybe it might be different if it was in another place.
