How efficient of a typer are you?

Do you use the control key when you are typing? Well, if you don't, you should! I have recently started trying to use the control key whenever I can to delete or space over whole words instead of just one character at a time. I have also started to incorporate the end home and delete keys as much as I can. Why not?

Also, what other keyboard shortcuts do you use?

i have a desk job in which I'm typing all the time, so I've had a lot of time to practice! I'd say I'm extremely efficient.

I type efficiently, in a what would be a very non-efficient manner.

I have developed a consistency because I have been typing the same way since I was about 7 or 8. Goes way back to when I was in 4th or 5th grade.

Work would take too long and I wouldn't get much done if I didn't use shortcuts.

156 types per minute and I'll mostly use all the keys except the F ones

I had to paint all the keys on my keyboard black so I stopped "pecking". I'm getting better but I've never had to type before so it's not easy for me.

In my job, I have to be. The only time I hold back is when I demo things because it breaks up the demo to be asked every ten seconds, "How did you do that?"

The ones people ask about most is selecting a whole paragraph (or half a paragraph) with a keystroke, navigating to the start of a paragraph, moving back and forward through time with what you typed so you can bring a single sentence you deleted a few minutes ago and resurrect it, changing font size, displaying the windows desktop, using menus, navigating a hierarchy. They're the simple ones, but often the ones people are impressed by. If anyone uses an application with IntelliSense, that's where all the really fun stuff is. It's scary how arcane it seems now to have to type every word in full.

If anyone wants to learn, just unplug your mouse for a month. You soon pick it up when you have to. Although to be fair, there are some that work in conjunction with the mouse too.

    • You sound much more advanced with your keyboard skills than I am with mine. How do you do the paragraph thing, if you don't mind me asking that is? :P

Hehe, sure. If you're in the middle of a paragraph, Ctrl+Shift+Up selects everything from the cursor to the start of the paragraph, and Ctrl+Shift+Down everything to the end. However, Ctrl+Up moves to the start of the paragraph so if you type:

Ctrl+Up then Ctrl+Shift+Down, you get the whole paragraph. Or Ctrl+Down then Ctrl+Shift+Up also works, of course. I do it so quickly it looks like one keystroke (it's pretty easy, to be honest. After the first keypress all you do is also press Shift as well and swap the cursor).

My boss at my old job took my mouse for a week to teach me how to better use the keyboard. It pissed me off for the entire week! lolz

Hehe, I don't think I'd want to be forced not to have a mouse. I'd probably hide a wireless one under the desk and use it on my legs >:)

OOh, you could glue a mouse-mat to the underside of your desk and grip the mouse with your knees! Not only would your secret be safe, you'd get huge thigh muscles.

And you could tell women you can control a mouse-pointer with the power of your mind.

Not that that's what I'd do *cough*

Id tell her my penis is so dexterous that I can control the mouse with that.

Never mind, no I would never use that line. It would be funny though!
