This is an interesting question. I saw another post on here like this the other day and I'm glad something similar is being done in poll-form.

I've always been unable to eat when I'm under a lot of stress or upset. It's like my digestive system just wants to shut down and the thought of eating seems ridiculous. During long periods of stress, I pretty much have to force-feed myself.
My entire maternal family is the same way, so maybe it's partly genetic. I've discussed this before with some of them and a few people came to the conclusion that it's due to the butterfly sensations and agitation that anxiety can cause and that some people are more sensitive to it than others, but I'm unsure. I don't usually get typical nervous feelings like butterfly sensations or restlessness.
I think it may be partly related to that, but could also have to do with the person's relationship to food: some people view food as an emotional comfort while others find relief in other ways.

In any case, I'm glad you asked. Maybe someone else has more information on this than I do.

    • I am the same! I have experienced this before a date or before a very important exam or before meeting a person I hadn't seen in ages. I can't eat, sometimes I have felt like I was gonna throw up and I have to force myself to eat. I hate going on dates to eat out because I always think I will be too nervous to eat :p

How am I suppose to know how I react? I know I panic when I have one of my episodes and start sweating profusely for no reason. When I feel like I might die. That doesn't happen all the time though. When I am upset I stop eating but that has nothing to do with how nervous I am.

Anxiety kills my appetite and raises my heartbeat. After a while the anxiety will slowly diminish because having a high heartbeat rate for extended periods of time can be physically painful

Sometimes I don't want to eat and sometimes I eat a lot. It's weird.

I'm not sure, haven't been too stressed in a while to be honest.

I don't want to eat because I feel like I'll be sick, but if I power through it and eat anyway I tend to feel better.

I tend to only get intensely nervous when I'm about to be in a social situation or if I'm in one. My nerves are especially heightened if I've never been around these people before or if I don't like them.

    - Sweating
    - Heart pounding so HARD and LOUD that I can hear it!
    - I'll accidentally say stupid or strange things that make the situation more awkward.
    - I may inadvertently come off as a rude asshole, or an extremely serious person who happens to be emotionally cold…

I have almost always had appetite issues. I've always had the tendency to eat less as opposed to overeating. I'm not sure if this was due to stress or something else.

Usually when I'm nervous, I tend to fidget around a lot, pace around, I can't keep still, and I don't think I can sit down along enough to eat, so I guess I eat little.

However, if I'm bored, oh boy.

  • Are those the only reactions you could think of? I'm actually not sure if I get nervous. I'm too carefree.

I do A and B when im nervous. It just depends on the day, I guess. Besides that I sweat, breathe heavily, and sometimes I get panic attacks.
