How do you think is it normal would change if...

If you couldn't see other people's answers when clicking on a post and only see them after you'd written your answer (which cannot be deleted)? After a set period, the answers would be revealed to everyone whether they've posted or not. How would it change the way you answer? If you are the poster of a question, would you like a choice to post your question this way?

I think it would change how I answer questions at least a bit. I think most people like to think it wouldn't have an impact on them, but most people will probably change their mind subconsciously after reading the other comments.

Also think it helps give better advice if you can read the advice that's already been given. You can elaborate on what someone else has said and get new ideas instead of worrying about repeating what someone else has already said.

Since I have Gold, it's not uncommon for me to be the first one to comment on a post. When there are other comments, sometimes someone's already said what I wanted to say, so I don't comment. I'm not sure how IIN would change. What would be changing? Do people change what they were going to say after they've read what other user have said or something?

I think people might get bored. I usually go back to posts a few days after I've commented, to see what everyone else has wrote. Sometimes I just like to read. It just seems like a bunch of faffing around for nothing.

:O Faffing is already a word with it's own meaning, though! Although, with your definition, I guess some faffers like to faff when they're faffing around.:P

Sometimes when I read the comments, I realize that I misunderstood the question. So for that, I'm glad to see the other comments first. I don't think it would change most of my thoughts, but it does shape some of them.

But there are times when it seems like one negative comment encourages others to respond in the same manner. It's a bit discouraging at times. I can see why hiding them could be beneficial. But it would be pretty easy to get around with nonsense comments of gibberish. That would be worse.

Well some things I just like to read without commenting anything and that would take away a lot of the importance from this site because I imagine a lot of people just read comments from peoples stories without actually giving a comment of their own. It's fun reading them too. You wouldn't be able to reply to a persons comment if you couldn't see them. It would do more bad than good in my opinion. And I think most people would stand by their own opinion anyway. They don't need to look at others before they comment and think "Yeah, I agree because you agree so I'll comment similarly". I don't think it works like that.

It wouldn't change my answers. I don't comment on a story based on people's comment, but my own opinion or advice to what I'm commenting to. I do like reading other people's comment because I like reading different points of view and advice, but it doesn't affect the advice I give in any way.

I don't think it would be as fun.

Some people post some really awesome replies on here.

It wouldn't change a lot. I tend to write what I think.

I'm trying it on this one. Id imagine I'd repeat answers which have already been stated more often. Really, that's the only reason i read other comments before i comment myself. Of course, i am inadvertently influenced by the comments of others', so my answers would be more purely my own....

Now to see how many others have said the same thing...

It is better as a conversation. You can learn things from prior people's comments, or see how it evolves. You can also chose not to join in - like when the same thing is being said or it is just a lot of dorky posts.

I am not particularly for this idea. There would certainly be much more repeat answers if that were the case. It would change the way I answer posts in that aspect for sure.

It might be nice if story/poll creators had an option for this when they are making their post though. However, I am kind of doubtful that it will get implemented if you suggest it.

It would lower the quality of my answers, because I sometimes see things I hadn't considered in the comments and take those things into account in my answer.

But then what if i don't wanna comment but read the comments?

That is a good point. In this scenario, a user would be required to post a comment before being able to read others' comments. That brings up the question would people start spam commenting just to bring up the other comments?

  • For me it wouldn't change at all as I never look at the comments before I post.
