How do you respond to aggression and to niceness?

You ask a question or make a statement and some other person doesn't understand it. They respond a certain way. How do you feel about their response...

If you receive a response to something that is (on the face of it) aggressive but is really just something stupid like repeating what a rapper said, how do you react?

If you receive a response which is outright hostile and has been thought about, so is deliberately hostile to you personally, how do you react?

If you receive a response which makes it clear the person didn't understand you but they're very nice about it and would like to understand, how do you react?

Just trying to work out which of these three is most effective and, if it's the "nice" way, why so many people fail to see it.

I prefer to be threatened viciously 1
I prefer people to pretend to be rappers 2
I prefer niceness 6

Aggression towards to aggressors. Doubt towards niceness.

Repeating my question aggressively, I'd probably just ask them what they don't understand but I'll be nice about it. If they can't properly explain what they are having trouble understanding, I'd just say forget it and drop the conversation entirely.

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure. It really does depend on the situation. Generally speaking, if they were nice about it and I read it as a nice comment, then I would find it really difficult to reply in a mean way. There would be no justification for me to act that way.

As for the rapper thing. Hmm. If it sounded like a plagiarism thing, then that is about the worst thing you could do, in my mind. Nothing gets me quite like plagiarism, unoriginal and just ARGH! If I read it as being funny and quite clearly a joke, then that's perfectly fine. And yeah, I'm sure that's probably double standards, but humour is my weakness.D:

Plain rude comments are a big no to me. I will find it hard to like the person after they do that. Which probably makes me a hypocrite, because I'm probably not always entirely polite here. I really don't know, though. Have you got any examples or something? Oh, also, I guess it depends on my mood and what they've misunderstood. Which would make my reaction mainly my fault, and I usually just don't reply in those cases.
