How do you handle strong suspicion?

If you suspect someone you care about (a good friend, relative, or significant other for example) is up to no good towards you but you don't have solid proof, how do you usually handle it?

For example, you suspect they're stealing from you, cheating, using you for cash or a place to stay and so on. Something pretty significant.

I confront them right away even if I have no solid proof. 12
I try to trick them into confessing. 10
I actively try to get evidence or proof and then confront. 35
Nothing. Wait and see what happens. 16

I warn them that I'm onto them. 1
I accuse them and then maybe make threats. 1

If it was me, I would cut off all connection with that person but that's just me. It's nothing to cut people off if they have no respect for me.

i usually try to get closer to them than i already am and get them to trust me enough to confess, usually. that usually does the trick. :)

I say nothing and give them a chance to hang themselves. If they don't do that, they were probably okay from the start and I'm glad I didn't judge them unfairly.

DO NOT try to get evidence first. It'll just piss them off. If you're suspicious, you've got SOME reason and SOME proof. Be sensitive, explain why you're suspicious. Be the confidante, and he or she might just open up to you. You might not be able to tell anybody else, but you know. And you can hang the fact that you know and they don't over their heads, if you like that sort of thing (though I wouldn't, it's too tempting and my friends trust me too much).
