How do you fix being a habitual lier?

I lie about everything. I make things up all the time. I'm not a happy person. I want to be a happy person though. I manipulate the way people think about me. This is not a manipulation. To say "I manipulate the way people think about me" is not a manipulation. I just want help with this. If there are groups I can go to I'd like to know about them.

Compulsive lying, i've had a friend who did this on a daily basis i could not stand him, every lie just got more ridiculous and creepy and he wasn't even good at it! It's probaaably a lot harder to tell the truth, i kno but there are probably reasons why you feel the need to lie whether it be insecurity or simply being socially inept. I'm not saying see a therapist but try and catch yourself if you start lying because it can really damage your relationships with others. Not good :(

You're covering something up because you don't want people to see you the way you really are. Just work out what you are fine with telling people and what you want to keep secret and if you don't want to say something just refuse to answer the question. That's what I do and I hardly ever lie.

thats a pathological lying personality disorder. its usually a result of insecurity, stress/pressure, low-self esteem, etc. There are therapies for it, I don't know how much of a help they are but I'm sure they're worth trying

If you keep lying to everyone about yourself one of these days when people find out who you really are its probably not going to be good. If they dont accept you for wh oyou are its the same as them not accepting you at all. Start telling the truth about yourself, real friends will accept you and it'll be alot easier. Although i have the same problem.

If you lie about everything then this story must be a lie but then it would be true at the same time because....whoa this is messing with my brain

pffft. Its easy. When someone asks you something- tell the truth, if the first thing to come out of your mouth is a lie, catch yourself and say "That was a lie" and then tell the truth. Its easy.

Just try telling the truth no matter how hard it is. You should also just tell everyone that you have been lying to them and then tell them the truth about yourself. They will respect that you had the courage to tell them and that you've decided on your own to be honest to them

I have a friend like this and hes also a cleptomaniac. The problem is lies always come out in the end. Youll be alot happier if your more truthfull and stop caring so uch about how people think about you. A good friend will accept you for who you are.
If you really cant stop lying talk you your doctor and theyll get you a bit of counselling
