How do you feel about trick or treaters this year?

Personally Im tired of all this child worshipping nonsense going on because of this covid stuff. People are dying, losing their homes and buisinesses, and then you've got all these parents crying that their kids cant have birthday parties and trick or treat.

Back in march and april some local fire departments were sending fire trucks to drive by kids houses on their birthdays because they couldn't have parties with their friends. What a ridiculous waste of emergency resources in a time when the economy is suffering.

Now these people want to bring their dirty unsanitary kids from house to house bothering people when buisinesses still cant open and are going out of buisiness because people owe ridiculous amounts of money for the last 8 months in rent. Why do people get so entitled when they have kids to inconvenience others for the sake of their own kids happiness. I know if I didnt get to trick or treat one year when I was a kid it wouldn't really stand out as a major horrible thing anymor.

  • There are people with different priorities, it's natural for a group to have a perception you as your own individual don't understand

Parents are rearing their children in unfamiliar times, this is something fun to do to build memories and development for their children, and I think it's natural to find that frustrating, and I think it's healthy to have an outlet

Everyone has problems, them having their "turn" doesn't invalidate anyone else

Also, in times of crises, those little things can make or break a society. Maybe a good example, someone will have to post the story in better detail, but wasn't there something going on in France in like the 1700s where a town or city was experiencing famine or poverty or maybe even disease and the Queen said "Let them eat cake" just like Mary Anne Twanet (lol) which caused a revolt of some kind?

And everyone in the medical field right now is getting discounts at all sorts of businesses and whatever other perks

Psychologically there is a benefit to incentive superior performance under duress, I think that's why there are practices like taking the fire truck out, give someone driving experience, test the vehicle and other equipment, keep people aware that there are emergency vehicles out there, and bring some positivity to a few neighborhoods

    • I get the whole bringing positivity thing, but part of growing up is learning that the whole world doesn't revolve around you and the things you want. Bringing kids door to door to get people sick during a pandemic is just being selfish. When people are dying and losing their homes and buisinesses, kids being sad that they cant get free candy from people or have a birthday party isn't on the radar of things that people need to worry about. They'll get over it.

      • You're missing the bigger picture, this is a widespread psychological issue that people are growing up in now and that's going to influence history in about 20 to 30 years

        • Yeah, and these kids are gonna grow up to be narcisists because they wont learn life isn't all about them.

          Boo hoo you missed halloween.

The rules in place over here are running old people who own stores in town out of buisiness and these same people are supposed to buy candy to give out for free and put themselves at risk of catching this "lethal" virus, when they cant open their stores.

halloween is the ultimate hoilday of parental entitlement

          • I feel like Halloween has cultural value, but I do see your point about entitled parents

There are honestly too many variables to accurately gauge how the individual or the masses will be affected, but the base value of doing it is that it's something positive for a developing child

Today me and a work friend are putting out candy and toys for everyone, there's gonna be a sign that says "treats are for everyone, but tricks are for kids" (because trick or treat, treats being the candy and the tricks being the little toys, plus it references the cereal) and so far our store decorations have made people happy

            • Its something fun for the kids, but its disrespectful to anyone who's lost anything because of all this quarantine nonsense to bring your unsanitary kids to strange peoples houses.

The kids are whats been bothering me this whole time, you can only walk one way in supermarket aisles but its fine to let your kids run around the store touching everything.

As a parent, I didn’t realize people were upset about not trick or treating.. I was planning to just dress the kids up and walk around the neighborhood eating candy. My sister is gonna hide candy in the yard like an Easter egg hunt.

But my ex seems to think his neighborhood is trick or treating. I think it’s rude to assume but I’m just gonna go with them and probably just do what I had planned. Lol.

    • Doing an easter egg hunt or getting kids together with their friends is fine, I dont have a problem with any of that. I just don't want a lot of strange kids coming to my house asking for candy when its apparently a health risk to open bars.

Why not let kids have fun? Why are you such a grinch? There is a ton of money for healthy smart businesses to make with the holidays if theyr'e safe. And hell, young kids never get covid, and rarely pass it on. What would you prefer? Permanent lockdown?

    • I don't agree with the lockdown to begin with, its more the principle of the thing. I lost my job because it went out of buisiness because of the lockdown. Your kids can stay home for halloween if covid is so dangerous.

The official policy here in Wales is that people should not be wandering the streets in gangs and knocking on doors to ask strangers for treats this Halloween. It's okay if such visits are prearranged.

The front-facing lights in our house will be off, we won't be answering the door and we've not bought anything to hand out in any case.

Halloween is our daughter's favourite holiday, so she's disappointed. But she's also old enough and sensible enough to understand and accept the rules that apply this year.

Well, they do go in gangs. A gaggle of pre-teens isn't the most menacing gang I've ever seen, but a gang nonetheless.

      • Im only saying it cause around here on the news they keep saying how they aren't banning trick or treating or really discouraging it in any way. Im not even one of those crazy covid-panic people, just with all the stupid rules theyve been making its stupid to let kids trick or treat. The official policiy is to stay in your own neighborhood. Great.

The older I get the more I feel like having kids turns people into narcissists. Suddenly the whole world revolves around whatever your stupid brat wants. Its raising a generation of really self centered people.

          Ok.. thanks for being insulting..

Also, there’s clearly a problem when EVERYONE except 7 and under are required to wear a mask. But they are more susceptible?

          • Wasnt trying to be insulting.. cant see where that happened...

I think its insulting that theyll shut peoples buisinesses down but wont tell entitled parents not to trespass on peoples property demanding free candy the parents could just buy them.

You’re whole last paragraph. When you insult parents and the kids they’re raising. Hi. That’s me. And my kids.

              You’re missing the point.

They’re just expecting you to offer children a bowl of candy, it won’t hurt you. Don’t be a cunt, just give the kids some candy.

I don't think they should be trick-or-treating this year either, but I do feel really sorry for them. Halloween and trick-or-treating was such a magical time of year for me when I was little. It was so exciting dressing up in a boss costume, planning out your route, going to all the different houses, never knowing what you're going to get, seeing other trick-or-treaters out as well, hitting up as many houses as humanly possible. And then coming home cold and tired, with (another) full bag of free sweets, and staying up late watching a scary movie. Those memories will stick with me forever!

    • I do kind of feel bad for them, but honestly if I missed one halloween cause of stuff like this it really wouldnt stand out as a traumatic memory or anything. If its too dangerous for me to go to a bar that doesnt serve food (somehow serving food makes it okay to hang out at a bar, and bars that don't serve food are still closed) I don't want strange kids coming to my house. People are losing their livelihoods because of the shutdown but they won't tell kids not to ring strangers doorbells?

Yeah I do agree they shouldn't be allowed to go out. For some kids though I'd say it would be devastating. There's not many holidays that stand out in the calendar. Besides Christmas, I'd say Halloween is the only one worth even remember the date of. But yeah, even so they shouldn't be allowed out. The parents can always try to do something special for them indoors, or they could buy them a present instead or something.

        • It would be sad but its not the end of the world. I guess honestly I just feel like if people aren't supposed to visit elderly relatives its pretty selfish to send your kid to their houses. Get them together with their friends and have an easter egg hunt or something.

I feel the exact same way. My parents want to put candy out in the driveway for what? I think it’s stupid. During a pandemic, kids don’t need to trick or treat. They can do it next year or whatever. Hehe.

Kids arent effected by covid. Not even in this second wave. Theres a 99.98 survival chance and most kids who did die with covid died of something else and had covid in their system.

A fucking kid died if a car accident yet it was covid fault.

    • Covid is bs but I mean with so many buisinesses closing and jobs lost cause of these ridiculous regulations...

I lost my job because the place went out of buisiness because of the stupid lockdown rules and im supposed to buy candy to give to kids coming to my house?

Why shouldn't kids have Halloween then? You make no sense? Just turn your lights off and ignore it if its not for you...

        • Im jealous if the kids in your area don't repeatedly ring the doorbell if you don't answer with your lights off.

Im against it because if covid is so dangerous that peoples lives have to be destroyed with this lockdown then we don't need strange kids going door to door.
