How do you feel about the society in brave new world?

If you haven't read it the book brave new world is about a future society where everyone is issued a drug called soma that keeps them high happy and functional. People have sex with whoever they please there are no relationships what so ever. People do not age either they remain youthful into their 80s then suddenly they become weak and are put into a coma by doctors and then given something that causes them to have a quick painless death also their is no religion in the sense that we have religion now. If you have read the book just focus on the aspects I have mentioned here

    It sounds perfect for the species and the world, but not perfect for the individual. Well, atleast the pill that keeps you happy isn't. If we took that pill, our feelings would be fake. I think the human species should keep their natural feelings, even if they are negative ones. It's one of the things that makes us great.

    Sounds hellish to me. If it's what people want, they can have a fucked up world like that. I'll be in a secluded area with my family while the world drowns in insanity and fornication.

    I studied this at school and some aspects of the novel are very disturbing and yet other aspects are really appealing to me so idk

    Really maddog u would like to go 50 years into the past where black Americans were treated as second class citizens women were oppressed much more than they are now. I wonder how old you are. People are always citing the higher incidence of divorce in present day society. I always say its a good thing in present day society if a husband beats his wife it's much easier for the woman to leave the man. Marriage might be sacred but it is not such a holy union that one or 2 people should be miserable for a life time maintain it. The only thing better about 50 years in the past was the economy this thread is about social issues and morality

    It was an interesting society that had gender equality. I'll admit it wasn't perfect but the closest to a utopia that I've ever read in any novel. I read a lot. I liked how they bred people for certain jobs and eliminated awkwardness, concerning sex, and just let the libido run wild. "Everybody belongs to everybody else" is a brilliant motto.

        true, but you can dull the pain with soma. Granted it's no Utopia. The book was interesting though. Too bad for Bernard. Since the I wrote this comment though my views have change. It is a flawed utopia but for most part, the people are at least happy.

              Since everyone belongs to everyone and is free to sleep with everyone. Yet there is no mention of what to do if you simply don't want to hook up with someone. So what about things like rape and STDS? and what about pregnancy? Unwanted child birth, birth control, abortion... What about these?

Cant be classified a utopia since you never mentioned any of these. If everyone is screwing does that mean everyone has STDS? If its legal to rape someone I dont see this as a utopia. I see this as a living hell where no one is safe.
