It depends on how they are mass producing things and what it is they are mass producing. The current business model is based on infinite growth on a finite planet. This cannot continue. We are disillusioned into thinking that this is good.

  • If its motives are profit-driven and someone/something is suffering as a result, then I would think that it's not a good thing. Isn't that common sense though?

Well with such a huge population, mass production is a necessity. Commodities such as water, food, clothing, and other necessary things like shelter *need* to be mass produced if we want everyone to have them.

Other things may be better when made uniquely, such as music, films, art in general.

That answer is retarded. Totally retarded.

Where do they mass-produce water, by the way? I didn't know we had water factories.

By mass production of water I meant national water purification plants and bottling facilities. I'm talking about bottled water especially because many places don't have access to running water.

She might have been talking about the process water goes through to become "drinkable", or putting it into bottles:L Grasping at straws here like, but you never know.

    it will never go away.
even people who often claim they are against it will still often go for the cheapest product anyway which will be the mass-produced one

Not one way or the other. But i think that what is being produced for the masses should be produced by the masses or we can always talk about exploitation of the masses to enrich a few greedy men. Like bill gates and steve jobs and basically every other corporate head. In other words i think that the way we are going fair distribution of wealth can never be achieved. So i believe in people run industries and businesses. Otherwise we have people breaking their backbones for minimal wage on one hand and other ones just sitting there counting the money on the other. Many small industries rather than a few big ones would also increase the variety of products available so instead of having all the same shitty things we would have different versions of the same thing produced or built locally. So we wouldn't have to make goods travel hundred of miles accross the globe just to see all the money overflow the bank accounts of a single bunch of guys holding a patent.

Good in moderation. Like anything else. Everything needs balance.
But usually mass production is cheap and won't last.

Only liberals hate mass production their the ones that to create jobs would build a building and then knock it over to make repairs to it in order to make more jobs. Utterly ridiculous innovation is always a good thing because it frees up man hours where it can be used for something better. For example at your grocery store with the automated checkout machines those are a good thing. It cuts down on costs and makes the items you are buying cost less.

Mass production is generally good. It creates jobs for people as well as goods at an affordable price. Look at the price of any hand-built car vs a mass produced car and you will see what I mean. There will always be a niche market for handmade goods produced by craftsman, but most of us cannot afford many of these products.
