How do you believe?

So how do you determine what you believe in? I'm very curious why people believe in different religions and beliefs.

The things that determined my religious beliefs were myself and the desire to want to believe in something. I don't want to go all T.S. Eliot and yell "God is Dead," I want to believe in something. I looked at myself and thought about what the world would be like if I was God (since God made man in his own image). Chances are that the world would be chaos and everything would fall apart, so rather than spend time watching over people and listening to their prayers, I'd just leave them alone to do what they wish. Ergo I'd be an apathetic God. Hence why I believe in Deism. God created the universe and then let it go.

We humans are responsible for our lives and how we handle the consequences of our actions. God won't make anybody's life better, you will have to. God doesn't play favorites, it's up to you to decide how you want to handle the bad stuff that happens in your life. If you think the world sucks, that is not God's fault, you choose to look at the world that way. Keep a positive attitude and try to find the happiness in misery (I understand that may seem difficult at times) and the world will look like a better place.

I think that if god were to exist then god would not have the emotions to really "care" about what happens to us.

god may exist but even if it does that does not guarantee that we continue to exist after death.

I don't know what happens after death. And if God didn't care about us then I don't think he would've sent his son down to help us.

Based on the knowledge that I have and the reasoning I employ, I have no choice in what I believe, the conclusion is inevitable.

I try to gain as much knowledge as possible and don't waste much time believing in things that cannot be proven or at the very least tested. Religion is absolutely irrelevant to me in terms of faith. I do have a historical/sociological interest in religion and know more about certain religions than most of their own followers do. We are all transitional species. The universe is incomprehensibly vast and ancient. Knowing these things lessens the burden of faith for me. I enjoy what I enjoy and try to treat people well enough. I take exceptional joy in my family and don't expect much from anyone or anything. Others may view my philosophy as bland or callous but I'm much happier now than I was in my youth when I sought something to believe in.

I don't believe in anything. My life is far to busy and important to waste it with idle thoughts of high powers and what not. I'll enjoy my life now thank you very much, and worry about the rest of it once I'm dead.

By faith and not by sight.

A mixture of all three but in certain situations I have trusted my gut feelings/helpful little "sensations" in my head.

forgot to take the meds again? getting sensations in the head that tell you about the great divine?

how come half of everyone thinks they're some sort of minor prophet. I'm so tired of everyone's vanity some people just can't believe that they're nothing but average.

        1. I don't take medications as they are highly dangerous. 2. I don't believe in any deity and 3. I don't hear voices in my head. How rude of you to assume these things.

I am not vain nor do I believe that I am a prophet. Where are you getting these silly assumptions from?
