How do i stop/ help this?

I have been taking Lexapro for anxiety for about a few months now. before I started taking it, I looked up the side effects for it. one of them was trouble having orgasms. I masturbate and I have been recently having trouble. sometimes I get my self to do it, but it just takes me a long time. I legit spent an hour trying last night. how can I stop this and have them normally again?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Were all different when it comes to that. It could be due to stress, appetite, sleep, depression, other factors. Did you increase the dosage of the medication? What makes you think this caused it other than it being a side effect?

I would first try to recall if there were any other changes in your life.

However as its only been a few months, I also would not rule out your hypothesis it could be a side effect of the meds.

There are a host of anti-anxiety drugs of this type so I would consult your psychiatrist if this side effect is causing uncomfortable levels of distress to consider other options. I would also be sure just to let them know in general of this or any other side effects you may be experiencing.

No matter what you do, do not simply stop taking the medication. Meds like these you most likely started at a low dosage and increased slowly. Coming off you must decrease slowly as well and this should be supervised by your doctor.

  • The side effects for every med are different for every person, but delayed orgasm is a very common side effect. I didn't have that with Lexapro, but have with other medications. It's very frustrating, but it did eventually subside for me, though I definitely have an easier time achieving orgasm when I'm not on medication. They all seem to affect it to some extent. I hope it gets better. If it doesn't, don't be afraid to talk to your med provider about trying something else.
