How do i fix my unaligned jaw? help?

Apparently I have a habit of grinding my teeth. It seems to be something I only do at night when sleeping. They gave me a guard to wear at night to stop this. However thanks to the grinding my teeth are not lining up right.

They said braces wont fix it so I never got any. The issue is that my teeth are all straight. However since they are grinded down my top jaw falls over too much and hits my bottom line when it shouldn't.

This creates pain even in the day time. Its not like the guard was made for daily use though. Since its only for bed. I trying to find a solution of how to make my top jaw stop putting so much weight on my bottom. I cant even close my mouth for this reason. Otherwise I feel all the pain pushing down and it gives me headaches. Its not like I grind on purpose and I not sure how to make the pain go away. Any ideas? It also becomes painful when I chew.

You might need to speak to a orthodontist about this.

You might need surgery to correct this and unfortunately it could be expensive so consult your insurance provider to see if such a procedure is covered.

I don't know if I'm understanding the OP's condition properly but if I am then the procedure is generally putting the patient under anaesthetic then breaking their jaw and realigning it into the correct shape. Not sure how much that would cost since healthcare is free in the UK :)

      • That would not work. The issues is my teeth are too worn down and now they hit each other. So my bite is not right as the top falls too low. Despite the fact my teeth in the row are all very straight. It apparently happens a lot with people suffering from bruxism. My jaw is not the reason it does not line right. Its the fact my teeth are too small.

Thanks for clarifying. Talk to an orthodontist, they'll know the correct way to deal with this. Most likely you'll find that the only thing possible is to try to repair damage already done to the teeth.

Maybe you could see a cosmetic dentist about capping the teeth that have been worn down and your jaw would feel better as a result of having your bite corrected. That's just a suggestion of course but please tell me what you think.

That's not going to help. Go get yourself a cold pop and sit this one out.

I have a scalloped tongue, And it looks strange, My ent said it's from Grinding my teeth when I sleep. He suggested I get a mouth guard. I think you should talk To an ENT first before a Dentist.

I used to have traintrack braces as a kid to help this

    • Your jaw was unaligned?

Sorry I misread, no, that was for my teeth, however I do have an unaligned jaw, since birth, you can't tell from looking at me but my bottom teeth are infront of my top teeth, there was talk when I was younger of putting me to sleep and basically dislocation my jaw,
It never happened in the end but it is a viable option
