How difficult is it for you to concentrate with noise?

When there are loud sounds or music playing or people talking, how hard is it for you to really focus and think?

I used to read while sitting in the back of the school bus and I was one of the only few white people on the bus. That took me awhile to learn how to do that, because (no offense to anybody but) black people can be pretty loud...

I used to be good with this but it's getting harder and harder. My boss and I often wear headphones at work. I've started to mute the TV when I answer questions on IIN. I used to have an attention span of enormous proportions and something is going wrong now. It's like they're putting something in the water, or in our media. It sounds paranoid but it sometimes seems like something or someone is trying to stop us thinking for too long.

I disagree with... umm... what was I saying? Oh, that's it, there's a conspiracy against us where... lost my train of thought again. Was this about hens?

Hens! Why are you all looking at me that way?

You know what? I've actually been considering it. My life is all out of whack and I want to do something natural to get my balance back.

It's very hard for me to concentrate anymore. I try to focus on everything that's going on around me so when there's a lot of noise, I get messed up and confused. I get so frustrated and I feel like my head is going to explode.

  • I can't concentrate at all if it's something I HAVE to concentrate on, like work, but if I'm watching a TV show I like or I'm on IIN then I don't really hear anything.

I can zone out people talking, but I can't zone out music I like.

  • I got used to the noise. I hear loud noises from all sorts of things all day long on most days so I'd have to change job if I couldn't focus and think with all that noise. I gotta admit, I like quiet days though.

I usually need some kind of noise in the background to drown out the voices in my head.

Usually not a problem, it only seems to be a problem if I am extremely stressed and trying very hard to focus and hurry and get something done, I think I psych myself out!

I think I'm good at it because I worked in bars for so long. There was always music, people talking, people ordering, TV's, card and pool games, boisterous drunks and their wacky antics-I would even drink sometimes....and I was always working solo so I had to figure it out fast! I did very well. I'd even read in the bar sometimes when I had time.

  • Music I know the lyrics to is really difficult. I can't help but sing when I know a song. I can tune out people talking though.

  • Tbh anything can distract me. Anything. If we're talking about music then it distracts me if its around me or from afar...it doesn't when I'm playing it directly in my ears (wearing headphones).

It depends for me..if the sound is constant and has a beat I'm okay. But if its completely random like someones smashing something and you can't tell when the next noise will come I can't concentrate.

Imagine having a dorm neighbor that really gives it to her next door. Loudly. During the most important days.
      That is my life.
