How can i handle a fake rumor about me?

I really need some advice and this is a completely serious post. I live in a small town and people here are really immature and gossip-y. I'm always the target of rumors but this time it's way over the top. People are claiming to have seen me blacked out at a party, being forced to suck four guys dicks. This was completely made up by someone (even if it was true who gives a fuck?). I normally ignore this kind of stuff but this time my image has been really damaged and people keep asking me annoying questions and giving me dirty looks. It obviously makes me feel sad and just kind of sick about how hurtful people can be. How am I supposed to handle this? By the way I can not just directly talk to the person who started the rumor since I don't know who it is and no one will tell me...

Most people only spread rumours because it's funny watching someone forced to defend themselves from something they didn't even do. Even if you prove it's all a lie, they probably won't listen to your evidence because that would mean the end of their fun. Avoid giving them that satisfaction and just ignore it as much as you can.

EDIT: To ease the pain, you could also try and get them back by starting a rumour about them :P

Do you have anyone, a few witnesses that are willing to defend your honor?

Maybe the best way to handle this is to break down the same way it was spread.

Let me know what the case is though.

It's unlikely that people will believe you when you tell them it isn't true. Instead, just show people that it was a malicious rumour by being your normal self. Those who want to believe stories without the facts or evidence are just fools anyway and you shouldn't worry about what they think. Chin up kiddo :)

Add on to the rumor. It's a reverse-psychological trick where you make the rumor so crazy that people obviously know you're lying and you won't seem like you're concerned by the rumor or defending yourself.

If you want to get legal about it this is slander. Meaning they must pay you money for any misfortune which might come of it.

I live in a small town full of gossiping people too. Someone spread a rumor that I was pregnant. I just ignored it and if anyone asked me about it I just said it wasn't true and laughed it off. I don't think anyone really believed it anyways. But I like myownopinions's idea too.

Turn it into something far more outrageous. Tell them you were actually caught eating a girl out or that you were just experimenting with different brands of bratwurst
