How can a long distance relationship last?

Hi guys,
i'm happy to have found this website, all true stories from everybody all over the world help us be closer.
Here is my story:
i and my boyfriend have been together for more than 2 years, our chemistry is very strong, though we quarrel some times. I believe its the same for most of other relationship, at first my boyfriend showed his love a lot, he is the type of guy who is caring and extremely nice to girls, knows how to make girls happy. Maybe thats where the problem starts.
He is still sweet but somehow to me, i feel something changes, either me being more obsessed or he is no longer as caring as he was. We broke up once cos he so called cheated on me (by talking sweetly and going out with a girl) but ended up we still got back together. And you know i should feel insecure more and more. Part of our trust is gone.
Moreover, i'm going overseas for further studies for 2 years, sometimes i wondering how can this relationship last? in my mind i already accept that we might be breaking up as soon as i leave, but my heart doesnt accept yet. I still want to work things out.
Any advices from you how to make long distance relationship work? Is this a normal relationship?
Appreciate your comments lots.

with love,
xoxo

As others above I was in a long distance relationship myself for 4 years. It was the most amazing experience but also heartbreaking at times, especially after meet ups and one of us had to go back home (he lived in the US, me in the UK). As dappled says you have to commit time to keep the relationship going, much the same we would stay up late in our time zones so we could talk to each other and it cost a fortune in phone calls each night.
But I hate to say it, if your relationship is already shaky and there are trust issues then you are almost set up for failure because there has to be so much trust there. Personally I would cut ties and do your own thing or at least sit down and talk to the guy and explain your worries and go from there. Good luck!

      that's a good one. tks :)
I think i'm nt ready to cut the ties just yet, there is still hope in me cos i'm a type of girl who would go for a long time bf to marriage, but i'm also ready if we would be breaking up in future

I am in a long distance relationship and it's really difficult. It takes a lot of communication, trust, respect and courage to keep a long distance relationship work. Sometimes I have crazy thoughts on what he might be doing or if he's cheating with someone else. It helps a lot that my boyfriend always reassures me of how important I am to him and that he loves me.

Anyway, I noticed that this post was couple years back. How're you? I hope everything went well with you and your boyfriend.

if you really loved him you would not being going overseas but moving to be with him. let him go. poor guy. encourage him to go out with that chick again. he deserves happiness.

It really is hard. You have to be mentally and physically prepared. It is more emotionally draining than it would be of a closer distance. I was engaged to a girl who lived in NC and i from the UK. It was really hard for me to handle the distance. But if your love together is really worth the time and distance then stick at it :)

  • its too hard. why do it if he already starting to be disengaged...

is the juice worth the squeeze, is he by far the most captivating person you have met..?? you wont know til you meet the rest of them ...

people will only disappoint you, make your self happy.

I went through the same except he was the one going to the other side of the planet to study in his home country. We loved each other very deeply i still love him we have only been broken up for some months now
we were great togetheter but yeah he could be flirty with toher girls but sometimes no more than often he didn't notice it himself so i was never really upset about that
he gave me a ring and when he told me he wanted to study in his home coutry i was devastated i only want wanted to be with him to follow him and he wanted the same so he went first and i was seeking jobs so that i could by the tickets and go be with him and then we had a long distance relationship
it lasted 4 month and some weeks before i had to break it off with him cuz i didn't get any job and he wanted to be single i just knew though he never told me straight out he had cheated on his previous girlfriends but i know he didn't cheat on me he loved me to much to do that to me i know that i still want him wish he will come back so we could pick it of where we left it before he flew away
we had been together for over 1 year wwhen we broke up he is my first in everything and still is the only one but
i know it was for the best that we broke up he needed to do what he wanted and i need to do what i want and it's not on the same continent i will get over him but i want him in my life as my friend cuz that he will always be my friend *corny i know but it is the truth*
I hope it goes well with you and good luck! if its been to happen it will happen until then do what you truly want and need for yourself! we are still young!

  • I was in a long distance relationship but it was hard especially not having the experience of being face to face. Only you can know if what you have with your bf is worth it though.

I was in a long distance relationship and the only advice I can give you is to make time for each other and really sacrifice yourselves. She ended up in a timezone eight hours from me and both of us stayed up until crazy hours making sure we spent time talking and nourishing the relationship for the year she'd be away.

She still cheated on me, though. And I cheated on her to a certain extent too. I wish you the best of luck. You'll need it.

so after a series of cheats, you two broke up?
or cheating is just a very common thing that would happen, but in the end, the couple still stay with each other?
and i dont like to cheat or be cheated. If you prepare to cheat, why dont break up first? i will be fine with that
