Housemate giving me an order

My housemate recently said to me: "John, stop leaving your face stuff everywhere!" with a very harsh unrespectful tone.

I thought it was unjustified because I never leave my acne treatment around the house and overall I leave the smallest footprint in our apartment of four residents. The reason it was out was that several people (1 guest even) wanted to use the bathroom the night before so I took it out to use the sink in the kitchen.

I simply said: "Sorry I brought it out because people were using the bathroom last night."

She's probably forgotten about it but for some reason, it's still bothering me. I don't really care about being friends with this person although in the past we have acted as friends and she has even said several times that she loves me and I've said that I appreciate her and her boyfriend. I think I just hate being talked to that way.

It sounds like there's no history of her saying things that rub you the wrong way. Just let it go, its just the one thing. It's worse for you to go on feeling like you've been wronged, and if she's already forgotten you're gonna look like a huge loser if you try and bring it up now.

    • Actually there have been several rude comments made. That one just bothered me the most.

She said she loves you and you said that you appreciate her?? And you ask why she is so dominant and rude to you??

Are you a college student? Study hard, and work to better yourself, and your life so you don't have to have roommates.

I personally prefer to live alone unless I am living with family, and even still I prefer to just chill with my cat. When I was in college, and living in the dorms I would always put in for a single room whenever possible. I did eventually get kicked out after about three violations, and then I got my first apartment. I think a lot of people would say I was spoiled or whatever, because my folks helped me, but I was glad to have my own little place. The apartment I had was a cheap one bedroom, I don't remember if it was called a studio apartment or not, but it had a swimming pool, and I was glad to be alone. It was fairly small, but I just enjoyed not having to deal with roommates.

Anyway, enough about me, and my long gone college days. I certainly hope that someday you won't need to have roommates. I'm living alone now with my cat, and it's good. I just wish we had a dog too, and by we I mean my cat, and I. Pets are probably the best roommates ever!

    • Yes, we're all students except one.

I do long to have my own place.

Tough call. I'll say she gets strike one. Keep your composure, and be pleasant. If she is relaxed and cooperative two weeks from now for four or five days in a row, forget the whole thing. You'll know which days on the calendar to stay away from her in the future.
