I slept with a girl who I later found out was my second cousin, so technically yes but I didn't realise we were related at the time. As well as carrying condoms for protection I now carry a copy of my family tree. xD

My husbands brother went to war, came home and started dating his step sister. A step sister he had known sense they were little.
Yup, living under the same roof, same bedroom. While his father was screwing the mom he was screwing the daughter. They got Engaged and soon after He got caught cheating and they broke it off. He ended up marring the girl he was cheating with.
That was about 10 years ago and now they are All friends on facebook.
    Wtf right, lol

If you haven't grown up around certain family members and then meet them it's not uncommon to feel attracted to them, particularly cousins cause they're usually of similar age, and it's just like meeting another person really.
I barely saw cousins on one side of my family and one of them turned out really hot and I liked him for a little while. Thought nothing of it of course :)

siblings-never, it's gross. But there is someone related (I'll say cousin or niece) who's in love with me and vice versa. We want to be together but obviously don't want the family to find out because it could cause problems. The key is to keep it a secret, but I don't think she can so that's why I haven't taken it further.

We always cared about each other as family until one day she made me realize she was very attracted to me. She's beautiful and I realized I liked her in that way also. We don't live close and so can't see each other often-but we plan to sleep together sometimes in the future.

just to correct myself, I wouldn't be attracted to my sisters but I won't judge those who are. Sometimes you just never know who you fall in love with.

However the one thing I'd recommend against is having kids because they will have a much higher probability of genetic defects. Though nowadays you can screen for that.

I've got a cousin with whom there's a lot of chemistry. We both know it, and know that the other knows it, but we never really talk about it. Not verbally, at least. It's one of those things where we're both obviously feeling it and we just let it go because... that's life. We basically communicate all this with body language and micro-expressions.

It's amazing how much can be said without saying anything.

So your cousin isn't adopted or anything? If you two share the same family tree I find that utterly repulsive. Good luck when you start popping out retarted babies.

many cousin marriages lead to healthy babies and it's a lot more common in the world than you realize. In terms of reproduction the incidence of defects is based on how close they are in the family tree. So a brother and sister would have a higher likelihood of genetic defects than cousins.

don't get me wrong, I'm not a big advocate of relations between family members but I can understand why it occurs.

people hook up because of their intense attraction for one another and their shared history. They don't go looking for it, it just happens and they're not in it for pumping out 17 children (though some crazy cults do such things).

They do it because they happened to fall in love with someone who is related. Try to be more understanding and less judgmental-it could happen to you too.

Can you read? I wonder who was popped out retarded. This is about having a slight crush that is never acted upon or spoken of, not fucking like rabbits and having children left right and center. Furthermore, two women are incapable of having children together. I know it wasn't mentioned, but it further invalidates this ridiculous response.

Also you seriously need to brush up on your research regarding genetic abnormalities that results from first cousins having children.

But I would brush up on my reading first, if I were you.

It was a bit harsh, and again - it's just a slight feeling of a bit of a crush. And that's all, just a feeling. I think you'd be surprised at how many people get little crushes like this on extended family. Also the rate of birth defects from interbred first cousins is surprisingly low. (But I still think, like you, that actual sex / reproduction would be icky)

Thank you for apologizing, though. I just felt upset that I was being called repulsive, and that it was insinuated that I was sleeping with my (female) cousin, so my "comeback" wasn't very nice either. Sorry about that.

The modern Western soicety is unusual in that it frowns upon sexual relationships between cousins. Many societies accept it as normal and in others it is even the norm.

It's quite legal in the UK to marry your cousin - no problem at all.

why not pursue it, you got nothing to lose as long as you keep it between you and him.

In our situation we have plenty to lose. It's just not considered acceptable in the society we live in, and our family is very important to the both of us. Long ago we accepted this was the case.

        • lufa

A lot of things are not considered acceptable by society, doesn't mean that you should kill your own happiness to appease an anonymous society bent on judging and punishing people.

As I was saying if you two can keep it a secret, no one will have to know and therefore there won't be any consequences.

Plus you won't have to worry about pregnancy either-which is a serious concern with male/female unions.

You're not hurting anyone but loving someone who loves you. Society is still barbaric-so until people become more civilized and open-minded just have your fun but keep it only between yourselves.

What it really comes down to is...

I've had a lot of crushes on a lot of people. Some are worth pursuing, others aren't. It just isn't a good idea, and there are plenty more proverbial fish in the sea.

Risk vs. Reward, and all that.

I was about to say 'to each his/her own', but I can honestly relate to your situation.

In my case it's similar with the risk/reward ratio. This is why I've been reluctant.

As much as I'd love to be with her and she wants to be with me-we really can't at this time.

I have been. I think most people probably have been at one point or another. I haven't recently though, and don't think I'm likely to again. I've always seen it as a normal part of growing up that most people grow out of.

Well there was this very attractive girl who is my uncle's wife's niece. By that time I think that it has become too distant from the family tree to be called incest. Is it?

It's called the Oedipus complex. We apparently repress sexual feelings towards our parents. Shouldn't let it bother you too much...very common

        • Hmmaybe

Yeah, but the guy who came up with the Oedipus complex also tried to explain female developement through penis envy...

OT: You don't identify someone is family unless you've grown up with them. So even people who do have natural inhibitions about attraction to family members (i.e. most people) meet a cousin who they have not seen often, they can be attracted to them.
