Homeless and 20 is there any hope?

For a homeless 20 year old is there any benefits you can get as far as housing in the US or is it impossible? I have been living at various houses since I was kicked out at 18. I have not been able to get a job and I have put in applications everywhere. The person currently living with is making it very clear they are sick of having me here. Please help? I looked up section 8 but I don't know if I need a job for it and currently I don't have one. What should I do? I cant sign up for being a cop till 21 and than backgrounds is a year long.

I dunno where you're from but in Texas you can work as a walk on at just about any construction site. Usually for around $50-60 a day in cash.

Oil fields are always looking for unskilled laborers and they make a ton of money

  • There are programs but they're hard to get into. The best advice i can give is to meet lots of people because life is easier when you know a lot of people.

    • That is not as easy as you think. Everyone fled the state or the country all together after graduation.

          • Well it doesnt happen by staying at home. Theres all sorts of ways to meet people.
Find an activity you enjoy and partake in that activity. For an example I like to sing and have met lots of friends at karaoke bars. There are often advertisments for activities online such as meetup.com. Dont expect to meet a bunch of people instantly. I regularly leave my house every day and go do activities. Knowing lots of people has been very benificial for me because we can help each other with things. Try to find parties too and talk to everyone. Even if you cant think of what to talk to people about just talk about random things. Socialization gets easier the more you do it.

Do you not have social housing where you are?

Here in the UK, if you're homeless and unemployed, you can be put on a register to receive council housing, then - once housed - go on job seekers allowance (a small sum of money to keep you alive whilst you look for work).

We have a thing called the Citizen's Advice Bureau in most towns designed to offer advice to people about these kinds of things. I'm sure your town would have an American equivalent?

Although, since you have access to the internet, I'd have thought you could find something about social housing / unemployment welfare online? Government website?

I'm sorry you are in that situation. I tend to think that there is hope for you but I'm not sure you're going about it properly. Have you tried applying for ALL types of jobs or just the ones you would like? Some are so easy to get. It doesn't matter if you make less than minimun wage and they hire you for 38 hours just so they won't give you 40-hour employee benefits, just take it. Things start moving once you start doing ANYTHING differently.
