Hit and run, manslaughter, murder 1

I saw a really cool movie tonight with my wife called reasonable doubt. In essence it's about this successful district attorney who kills a man while going home drunk after a party, calls 911 and then flees the area. A man played by Samuel L Jackson finds the guy on the side of the road and tries to get him to a hospital. Then they try to nail Jackson, who is trying to help, with murder one. The twist is the guy who was hit was a real dirt bag sleaze ball child molester. The successful district attorney has to try to prosecute this guy and is really overridden with guilt. I don't want to give too much away about the movie because it's really good, so The question is, if you were involved in a hit and run, would you turn yourself in? Why, or why not?

Yes I turn myself in no question. 18
No way I turn myself in. 10

Ok, I wouldn't ever drive away. But if I was in that situation, it would honestly depend on whether I thought I would get caught. If there were witnesses I would hand myself in because they'll probably figure out it was me, I don't want to be on the run and it will look better in court.

But if I thought there was nothing linking me to it, the truth is I wouldn't hand myself in unless I knew somebody else had been or was going to be convicted.
    I try and avoid jail.

Sometimes in a "Hit and run" they abandon the person. He hit him, called for help and than left before the cops came. If the guy lived I really don't think the driver should be prosecuted. I mean he stayed to get help. Most people would just hit someone freak out and run away. If people are willing to take responsibility for their actions I don't think we should send a message that the right thing is bad.

If an innocent individual got blamed I would definitely turn myself in.

I couldn't live with the guilt of hurting someone anyway, so the least I could do would be to own up and face the consequences. It would also be extra cruel to that person's family and loved ones if you didn't own up.

Saying that, with the thought of prison I'd crap myself and probably wished I hadn't owned up - best to drive carefully and try and avoid that quandary. I even feel bad when a flie hits my windscreen.
