Here is how i deal with troll posts. iin?

I always try to give serious answers, even if the post makes a strong impression of being a troll post. And here is why.

1. Even if the things mentioned in the post never happened, we can still discuss the hypothetical situation, and the normality of it. The question isn't always "Is it normal that I...?" Sometimes it's: "Would it be normal if I...?"

2. My impression can be wrong. I've met a lot of people, whose beliefs differed from mine so much - I never thought it was possible. And yet it was.

3. Children have access to this site. They are not always capable of understanding sarcasm, satire, irony and so on. Therefore, I prefer to answer seriously to all posts, to avoid confusion.

Thoughts? Reactions? Ideas?

I think that's better than the way I do it, which is the exact opposite. If I even get the slightest whiff of trolling I usually call it out because I hate the idea of someone playing me (or anyone else here) for a fool.

If someone writes a post about something they've done or an attitude they have that is very cruel, I don't care if I'm mistaken when I call them a troll. Hopefully if it is real they'll take it as a sign that what they are doing is so inhuman it can't even be taken seriously.

I'm sorry if I have ever called someone out wrongly (which is likely considering how often I do it), by the way. No offense intended :P

Actually, it's not normal, not in the sense of normal as commonplace. But I voted that yes, it is normal, because I wish it would become commonplace-normal. It's certainly a very rational way of going about it; and a morally sensible one too. Abnormally good is something I can't help but say "yes" too.

That's actually an effective way to encourage even more trolling.

    • Which isn't that bad in my book. Like I said, some trolls contribute to the discussions very well, even if they don't intend to.

That's pretty cool of you. I like to answer seriously as well most of the time, I don't normally bother with a story if it's clear it's fake.

Most people are not going to get sarcasm on the internet. Everyone seems to assume it works but it wont. Tone does not transfer and the only way to make a term/phrase sound sarcastic is if it has a negative connotation.

This is something people on the internet seem to miss and probably should addressed. Since people do it entirely too much and than go on a rampage when you did not understand they were being SARCASTIC. People need to be intelligent and realize we are not in their heads.

If its a obvious troll like "Do you masticate" which is an obvious joke no one is going take it serious. If its a seems like a serious question you should answer it seriously and no matter how extreme not assume its a troll.

IF someone says extreme like they were raped it might not be a joke even though you assume nothing like this could ever happen.

IF you want to know a troll here is a nice hint though. If they contradict each other in the same post on different lines. I noticed this a few times.

Such as "I had 9 dogs and 12 of them died so I took them to the vet to have them put down." <=== Obvious flaw which makes no sense. You cant have 9 dogs to start and 12 of them die. Since you only had 9 to start with. If the dogs were already dead why would you have them put down. This shows someone cant keep track of when they are lying. So keep an eye out for that.

If it was something they got from experience they are going to know the number. If they are making this up this is not based on a real situation.

    Thoughts, you think too much.

Reaction, I thought that you think too much.

    Ideas, don't think too much.

  • That's good for you, but that doesn't mean it's the best way for everyone else. ;)

But how will kids learn about those things unless they are exposed to them? I'm all for exposing kids to anything that isn't dangerous for them, as soon as possible.
